Hi I'm a native Houstonian and will be sleeved on November 12th. I'm also a degreed professional but don't have any children...just 2 new kittens :) Really could use a mentor and friend who understands what I'm going through now and will be very soon. Family is completely unsupportiveI SO scared and feeling a bit lost and concerned as to whether or not I'm making the right decision...

Truly hope to hear back from you!

Joyce

Hello,

I am in Richmond, TX for the past year now. I will have the RNY on 23 Nov. I've told some of my family and a few friends about the surgery and the support is a mixed bag. Some are very positive and understand why I feel it necessary, others "Well if you insist" and the last group I haven't even mentioned it to because I know they will try to talk me out of it. I would love to be able to communicate with people (you) in the area for both support and encouragement after my surgery. Thank you for starting this group.

No problem! I truly believe that working together helps make this journey easier! I have been sleeved since 8/01/2014. I was not really afraid of the surgery its self because I believed without it I would have died at an early age. Now, at the very least, I have the chance to become my healthiest self!

I have been on such a high this week. Everything seemed to be going my way, I thought. I was greeted by some unexpected awful news in my mailbox on Sunday and so I've let it put a damper on my enthusiasm. I am trying to work through that and not to lose my focus. I am still very happy that I am getting closer to my surgery date and I am trying hard not to let even the worst news dampen it. Life has a way of continuing (good & bad) no matter how much you wish you could control it. So, ladies, pray for me...if you are not the praying sort...try a little for my sake. :) I hope that each of you have the best of weeks! Take care! Muriel

Seems like life is always throwing us curve balls when we least expect it....this entire past year has just been one big nightmare that I just want to have end...I'm praying that this surgery will mark the beginning of a new and better chapter in my life. Surgery is set for this Thursday morning so please keep me in your prayers that all goes well...

I been here running like crazy! It feels Great to be able to do things like walk up an escalator in the mall. This is the first time in my adult life I feel free. I don't worry about people watching me eat. I am gaining more confident and enjoying being me! Fat for me was an excuse not to try. I am no longer trapped in that prison! I am still working towards my weight-loss goal . What I have learned is to enjoy the journey!

I did not realize how long it has been since I checked in with you. Well, 23 Nov 2015, came and went. I am now Day 29 Post-OP, as incredible as that sounds to me! In addition to making a concerted effort to do what my surgeon asked of me pre-op, I think that he is just an incredible surgeon! After getting home, I never had to use any pain or anti-nausea meds! Thank God I have had little or no problems at all. So, now that I am in the transition of "soft-to regular" foods I have to pick up and get serious about movement. That requires a mental/mind shift that I have to work hard to do. I have gifted myself with a Tai Chi Groupon to get me started. That is my post-Christmas goal! I hope that the both of you are going to enjoy the holiday downtime with family and friends, relaxing with good conversation and no stress!

I truly love my sleeved life! I have walked all over downtown Houston and its suburbs. I flew in an airplane and fit! It is not all about weight loss. I am living a healthier lifestyle. I hope you all are having a blast cause I know that I am! This sleeved thing is not always easy. Each day is a chance to do better. Keep moving people and remember to smile because it's contagious! Happy New Year!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
