I couldn't find a thread anywhere that related to this topic specifically, so I have resorted to my own.

I know everyone is different and heals differently, but how long has everyone willing to reply had to wait after surgery before they were going up and down stairs again? And not just four steps, I'm talking at least twenty.

Thanks!

It was about two weeks (when I returned to work) before I could do that many stairs. I started off with 4-5 the first few days & kept increasing each day or two.

The week I returned to work, day 11 post-op, I was climbing the stairs at work. It was way more than 20 stairs. I took it slow and easy. No problems.

After VSG surgery I was going up and down the stairs the day I came home from the hospital with no problem.

My bedroom was upstairs, and I was going up the first day home. Of course I kept going up and down them to a minimum. Like what was said, just take it slow and easy.

Believe it or not, it's really good to move around after surgery. Promotes healing and gets the blood flowing :) But by all means, if you're not comfortable going up and down stairs, try to avoid them the first week or so.

I live in a split-level house so I was doing stairs from the day of surgery. I was done as an outpatient and went up and down same day. Just go slow and you should be fine.

I was able to walk up and down my staircase slowly as soon as I came home from the hospital.

I believe it was about 2 weeks post surgery before I got the okay to go up and down stairs. They wanted to make sure my incisions wouldn't tear. Since then I make it a point to go up the stairs unless I am running late for a meeting and need to take the elevator to save time.

Once I returned home from surgery I had to hit the stairs since my apartment is on the second story. Just take things slowly and be careful

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
