How soon after a fill do you start to lose weight? I had my first fill on 10/28/04. I don't really feel too different.

You're first fill may not always be the fill that gives you the much needed restriction. Depending on your dr, he/she may prefer to 'creep up' on the restriction or be aggressive with larger fills. Sometimes, it takes up to 2 and 3 fills before you really get to that place where you can eat enough to be satisfied but still manage to lose weight. I've had three fills since i was rebanded in July and I'm still not having the restriction I need. It will come, but we have to do our own parts too, which is learning to make better choices about the foods we put in our mouths and the amounts too. Until you get to that place of restriction, you sort of have to 'white knuckle' it for a spell. You're not alone, we've all had to find that place by trial and error. Patience... it took us many years to get here, it may take us a little while to get back to where we want to be too.

I think the rule of thumb is, if you are getting in all your Water, getting exercise, not snacking, getting in all your Protein and not eating sweets. If you are Still not losing after a minimum of 2 weeks, maximum of 4, you should consider having another fill. Each doc has his own set of rules, however.

Some people have said it takes a week to 2 weeks for their fills to kick in. My first fill took a week to kick in ...my 2nd fill was instant restriction. Also some people need more then one fill to notice a difference

This site is a good site to see if you are adjusted properely..sometimes it is an attitude adjustment we need more then a band adjustment. I know it is for me right now. I have scheduled my 3rd fill in 2 weeks but in the meantime I'm working on my attitude and seeing it it makes a difference. I have gotten lax on my food choices, Water & exercise.

dear jenniferh,

my dr. is abkin too, but bertha did my fill... i felt an immediate change ater the fill.... if you don't feel much, tell him... my first fill he put 2cc's in. when i was able to eat again... i was supprised a sunnyside egg made me real full (in the am) i can eat 1 slice of pizza, one small hamburger. i'm actually thinking of another one. it feels good most of the time, but i sometimes feel it was just a pinch tighter.. but i don't want to start throwing up, and not be able to eat a little like a normal person.... but softer foods, it seems like i could eat a lot more.... i do better if i eat the Protein of my meal first, i feel much tighter.... hope it helped....RO

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
