Sleeve vs Bypass long term weight loss results

Recommended Posts

It's nothing like the band. I share your fear though about eating around the sleeve. Constant vigilance is the key. I'm honestly saying that I am loving sleeve eating. I've had no intolerances. I would barely know I had surgery except in satisfied very quickly. I haven't really pushed it to "full" yet.

Thanks that's good to know. I mean I know you have to try and not sit around and eat ice cream and gravy. You have to eat a lot of Protein. But after a while with the band, I have up and started eating crappy. Just don't want to carry that on to the sleeve. Probably going to drink Protein shakes for a while even after the surgery when I'm able to.

So I am very new. Just about 8 weeks out but I find that it is as effective as my band was when I had perfect restriction. Except now I can eat healthy fruits and vegetables and all kinds of Proteins without problems. I read on here about sleeve patients with all sorts of problems with eating and not getting in enough protein and vomiting. This hasn't been my experience even once. I don't know why that is but I guess I'm lucky.

Just found out I'm having the bypass instead of the sleeve and wanted to know feedback from people. Is it that much more risky than the sleeve? Anyone have had band to bypass and want to share?

Read studies to get statistics. They are both good procedures and for me the sleeve has been a much better quality of life than I had with lapband.

I lost about 150 post revision... almost 4 years ago. I am currently 3 pounds over goal. I love my sleeve.

Medical staff I've talked to make it sound like the sleeve and bypass aren't very different from eachother. I do have to have it due to years and years of acid reflux and was told the sleeve would make it worse

Gastric sleeve surgery. Longterm success. Well, I started out at 230, I am down to 125. (At least last week I was.) I'm 2 1/2 years out. I'd call that long term success. But it's up to you. My husband has gained a large portion of his back. He's eating larger portions, carbs and sweets. I eat carbs and sweets occasionally, but very small portions and very seldom.

Yah it seems like the people that gain it back cheat and don't change their eating habits. I am not going to go through all this to just sabotage myself and regain everything I lose. I am going to fight!!!

Yeah, not it SEEMS. That is EXACTLY how they gain it back! Good for you for recognizing that!

Well to be honest I am nervous cause I had the band back in 2008 and it failed cause I couldn't eat and threw up every time I ate. So I started cheating and eating whatever I COULD eat. But I'm having bypass in November and I'm not about to have my second bariatric surgery and let the SAME thing happen! ! I can't... that just would be insane!

Same here...lapband makes you obsessive because at times you can handle foods other times a vomit fest.As I told the NUT.It doesn't matter what you say to me regarding a meal plan because sometimes I can have a salad or a boil egg, next time I will barf. You never know....and I become so hungry!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
