In the research process

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Jamie and I am currently researching the lap band procedure and from what I have seen I need to go the next step and see my doctor. I have been overweight my entire adult life and would just like to be able to get the weight off and not yo-yo.

My husband and kids are behind me 100% and think that this would be good for all of us and hopefully help me with some of my physical problems that are most likely caused from the weight.

I would like to thank all of you that have been posting on here, for it was a lot of what I read from everyone that made me think that yes this is the right way for me to go. I hope that one day that I can have the sucess that so many of you have.

When I have news from the doctor I will be more then happy to share. And I will continue to read here and hopefully learn much more.

Thank you

Jamie

Welcome Jamie,

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Good support from your family too.

I chose lap-band to keep me from gaining more weight. I knew that was where I was headed.

The surgery is such a easy surgery . No cutting on the inside at all.

best wishes,

edie

Hi Jamie, it's great you've got the support of your family. One of the reasons I chose to get banded was so that I could do more physical activities with my son before he was grown and gone. I've missed out on so much by having difficulty running and not being able to get in and out of canoes comfortably and lots of other things like that.

All the best with your journey.

Thank you all for your support. I know that this will not be a fast journey but it is a long time coming. I just hope that this will also help elevate some of my physical problems also, we think that they are weight induced.

Hopefully within the next year I will be back on my bike and riding the roller coasters with out the worry if I am going to fit into the seat this time.

The day you wrote your letter, I had my surgery. It sounds like you have done the research, have the family support and are ready to make the next step. I wish you the best, and think you have made a good decision.

Thanks Jamie, Susan and all:

I feel very glad that I finally made a GOOD choice for myself, after making so many bad ones, especially concerning food. I went on the pre-op diet for almost 3 weeks, and, probably as a reflection of how much I was eating before, lost 21 lbs. Since the surgery on July 5th, I've neither lost nor gained. I sometimes fantasize about food ( hamburgers, steaks, guacomole) , but I'm not hungry. Mostly, I'm feeling nervous about getting back to eating again.I think I'm afraid I'll gain back the weight I've lost as soon as I start eating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
