So I've been thinking about gastric bypass for about a year in 22 why not do it while I'm young! I know a few people that have done it and have done amazing, but me on the other hand am so nervous which I'm sure it's something everyone goes through. Just curious on how much other people are loosing on average and what they are doing to keep it off!

Welcome! If you want opinions of those your age, you may want to check out the 20's board.

See my ticker for my stats. Having had children, I always wonder how younger folks who have children after surgery manage in the long run.

I am 27 months post-op RNY gastric bypass. I have lost 115 pounds which equated to a weight loss of 44%. I have been in a maintenance phase for 20 months. As far as keeping it off, I don't seem to have a problem. Still practicing Portion Control. Using fats to control any hunger.

I'm nervous too I don't know if I should get the sleeve or bypass. Need help deciding. If any one had it. Or which one maybe better and any complications. Please let me know.

I am only 10.5 months post op. I have lost 117lbs and am still in weight loss phase. I have less than 30lbs to go.

I had RNY and I chose that surgery because I suffered from Reflux/Gerd. Bypass cures that illness in the majority of cases. In my case it cured it along with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and stage 3 kidney disease.

All of those diseases were brought on because of my being obese.

I have gone from a size 26 to a size 12! I never thought I would be able to get down to a healthy weight. I am very close to a healthy BMI.

Weight loss surgery is a scary decision to make but when you are ready you won't be so scared anymore. I just hope that you choose a path that helps you lose weight before you do damage to your bodies. Whatever path that might be.

Although I got rid of a lot of my comirbitities as listed above, I did serious damage to my joints and my spine. I waited much to long to do something about my weight.

Even though I have joint damage, I can do more things now than I have in 25 years. I can run up the stairs, walk for miles, I literally have my life back!

Thanks you for the advice! And congratulations on the weight loss. I'm very nervous. I've never had surgery but I know I need to change my life for the better I'm 5'9 and 380lbs luckily with no health problems now but I wanna fix it before it's to late. Looking back I never thought I would have let my self go like that but it's my own fault. Thank you for the encouraging words.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
