brilemons 1 Posted August 15, 2015 How long do you have to wait to do these types of exercises
sleevenv 483 Posted August 15, 2015 I've been hitting gym hard since two weeks post op. My surgeon said no crunches or squats until four weeks. I'm six now and I have no problem doing anything. However, I was a low starting BMI (33.3) and didn't have a lot of belly to cause pressure on my pouch at four weeks out. ASK your surgeon to be safe.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted August 15, 2015 Well squats are just sitting down with no seat, so you should be able to do those. I wouldn't do any ab exercises until I was sure my stitches were all absorbed/dissolved.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted August 15, 2015 Hold off on anything that engages your abdominal muscles (even squats) until your surgeon clears you.

dsheive 100 Posted August 16, 2015 Don't know if that ? Was for me. But I am 3 weeks still have ten pound no push pull lift. 3 weeks off and can't do a damn thing.
tomi71 581 Posted August 16, 2015 (edited) I was told not to lift anything greater than 20lbs until after my 1-month post-op check up. Then, take it slowly with anything that really uses ab muscles (had a hernia fixed along with the VGS.) I stuck with walking daily, adding more and more distance as I could handle. About month 3 I started with weights and and doing ab work. I incorporated running into my routine at about month 7. Edited August 16, 2015 by tomi71
lvlpar 11 Posted August 16, 2015 I would be very careful, if you do abdominal exercises too soon you can get a hernia or it can create bulged in your stomach that will look real bad. Pat
