KLM1959 0 Posted August 15, 2015 I started my process late last year. I have been very lucky every step from weigh-ins to insurance approval to surgery date all in 9 months. I have a number of issues the surgeon needs to take care of besides the gastric bypass. I have a hiatal hernia, gall stones and liver disease. Having had endometriosis and cystic ovaries which led to a total hysterctomy at 27yrs of age, that old adheisions, scar tissue could pose a longer surgery. I am assuming I will be in 4 days but hope to be out in 3. To add insult to injury my fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and osteoarthritis are screaming!! My Dr only has me on clear liquid diet the day before the surgery. I am thinking maybe starting it earlier. I also ordered unflavored liquid Protein to add to my own homemade defatted chicken stock, Jello, pudding and drinks. Anyone had any experience with the Proteinex? Getting nervous about the surgery itself and the 24th is creeping up fast. Any tips anyone? Kathryn
dhrguru 1,238 Posted August 15, 2015 I don't see harm in starting your liquid diet early, I've not heard of the Protein you are trying though. The weeks before surgery I focused on getting my house prepped. Deep cleaning, meal prep for the family and myself. I set nerves aside to make sure coming home was stress free. geronimo 52 Posted August 16, 2015 My surgery is on the 25th, and I'm in the midst of my two week pre-op diet. They too have me only doing a liquid diet one day before surgery. When I asked if I should do a longer liquid diet, they said no, that that would be torturous and they'd never make me do that because it was unneeded. The whole point of the pre-op diet is to help shrink the liver, and it was explained to me that the only thing that really matters for shrinking the liver is keeping carbs below 20g/day. So, I'm essentially doing Phase I of the Atkins Diet. From what I gathered, the liquid diet the day before (along with drinking liquid Magnesium Citrate) is to flush out your system (stomach, intestine, etc.). It wouldn't hurt if I did more than one day of liquid diet, but they said it's unnecessary.
