My Upper GI results.

Recommended Posts

I had an Upper GI 2 weeks ago, but nobody has called me with the results. I just called the doctor, and his secretary read the results. She said the doctor will call me later to further discuss.

I don't know what it means, but I have "relatively mild limitation of gastric distension at EG junction."

Other than that, I have good results. Normal, no leakage, barium moves normal, no esophogeal (doctor speak that I have to wait for him to call to explain.)

I don't know if this doctor will want me to have an endoscopy at this point. I'm sure my insurance won't cover one, since he didn't find anything remarkable in the Upper GI. So now all I want for Christmas is a port and a belly scope!

My incision is still slightly leaking. My surgeon gave me till next week for it to heal. If it's not healed, they have to open the wound.

THANKS TRILLIONS FOR ALL YOUR AMAZING SUPPORT!

Hey Lisa "relatively mild limitation of gastric distension at EG junction" just means that you have a mild swelling at point where the esophagus (food tube) meets the Gastric(stomach) section. In other words, you are stretching the esophagus by overeating but only MILDLY. The EG Junctions stands for Esophageal Gastric Junction. Now when the doc calls to explain this statement ask him if this is what he means? If not then I failed my Digestive Anatomy and Physiology class. LOL!!

As far as "Normal, no leakage, barium moves normal, no esophogeal (doctor speak that I have to wait for him to call to explain.)" this goes it sounds as if he was saying that everything is fine. Didn't say what came after the "no esophogeal" statement. Usually it would say something like no esophogeal trauma or abnormalities, etc.

Keep us posted.

Penni, I was lucky to get that much info out of the secretary, which is why my sentence stops dead after "esophogeal." But other than the one comment, she said the rest was normal. She even read one sentence that used the words "stomach" and "excellent" in the same sentence, so that's gotta be good.

Now, about my eating too much... who, me? Sheesh, sure can't eat much at all with my lil bandie, can I? Time to do some serious work to cut back my portions. Darn, busted.

Can't be good though, especially this soon in the band game. If I don't stop, mild could turn into monster! Thanks for the info!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
