So, I did the math, after 4 months post surgery

Recommended Posts

I worry when I see my friends who have had the surgery losing so fast, and go from a 22W to a size 5 in 6 months, and I still am not below 200 pounds. :( Then I did the math. I am actually losing at 2.5 pounds per week. Is that about normal? I know comparing myself to someone else is the wrong thing to do, but I do it. What do you think?

That sounds good to me. I am 6 weeks out and have been losing under 2lbs per week.

@@wannaBthinsoon - I am not on your side of the bench yet, but in my many, many, many diet attempts over the years, I would always shoot for 2-2.5 #/week for all the reasons you mentioned. The REALLY amazing thing is that you are going to keep on loosing that weight week after week until you reach your goal. You don't have to be in a race, and you don't have to loose that same 2# over and over again. They are gone!

Ok, sounds like we're pretty normal. I'm not going to sweat it. I'm not gaining anymore, that's for sure!

You are not being dumb, just human. Like me right now... I am about to "jump time" as I call it waiting for my call for approval. It has been the longest 9 days yet! LOL

Besides, when I get to where you are it will be you reminding me of this. LOVE this community. :)

I hate to disagree with you, but the weight loss will not be as steady as you describe it. She will not STEADILY lose 2- 2.5 pounds week after week until goal. There's going to be weeks where she loses nothing. Weeks where she may even gain. Weeks where she loses ounces. Weeks where she loses 3 or 4 pounds.

Weight loss, especially with the sleeve, is not Fluid. If you put it to a graph, it will look more like the steps of stairs as opposed to a steady downward slide. Oh, if it could only be that easy!

Anyway, just wanting people to know so nobody thinks they suck at this or are a big failure if the weight doesn't just fall off every week as time goes by. That's not how this works.

This is so true and so hard. I lost very quickly with the band. I was younger and single and it was easier. I'm trying to remind myself that slow losers and fast losers all end up at the same place!

Also, don't compare your weight loss to that of your friends, everybody is different so every body is different. We all loose weight at different rates, there is no universal number. Concentrate on what your loosing, that's the only number that matters

I lose in fits and starts.... Nothing for 3 weeks and then 10 lbs in a week....I just go itch flow and let the process happen!

@@Babbs I don't think we are in disagreement. I have no idea how much she will loose from week to week, but that has been my goal in my past efforts. I lost and gained them back.

The message I was trying to convey is that with this new tool she has the best chance ever to continue moving forward at her own pace.

As you say, if it could just be that easy.

Good luck to everyone on their journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
