lip balm, a long charger for your phone, and a soft cotton sports/leisure type bra (no underwire) that fastens in front. And no matter how many helpful replies you get here, pack about half as much as you think you need. This is major surgery, not a spa vacation, and the hospital will have what you need.

You'll want elastic waist pants for your comfort.

Mouthwash!

Pack a very loose fitting shirt to wear home and pants with an elastic band. Chapstick and they have a tooth brush and toothpaste but if you would like your own I did. Mouthwash for after the swallow test. The time your awake you spend walking or trying to catch sleep before someone comes to check on you so no worries of books or iPads. And don't forget your charger. I also took baby wipes because I didn't like the surgical smell and couldn't shower for 48 hours after surgery.

Instead of the loose fitting pants and top, I wore a loose maxi dress that put no restriction on my belly. Glad I did. Even a week post-op, elastic hurt on my incisions.

Best quote of the day. Just sayin'.

I brought a brush, my fave lip balm, my phone, and an extra long charger. That's it. I wore home the same clothes that I wore in, loose yoga pants and a tshirt. I had no problem wearing a regular bra.

Your own pillow

Oh, second this! I did that -- big fluffy down pillow, in a bright case so I wouldn't forget it. Thanks to a tip on here. I LOVED it.

Thank you so much for all your responses!

So far I am taking:

Vaseline (for my lips)

Gas X

Phone

Charger

Wearing in and out: yoga pants and a maternity shirt ( from 7 years ago! Can't believe I still have it).

Tooth brush and paste

Pillow

Is there anything I am missing?

I would add face wipes, my hospital gave my body wipes but i did not want to use them on my face. It feels good to face a clean face.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
