Alcoholic beverages

Recommended Posts

I am only 3 weeks in but i consider the surgery as a tool to be healthier. I could make bad choices, but if i make good choices most of the time and have small portions. I will eat pizza again, but 1 small piece instead of 3. I will enjoy a drink once in a while. If being perfect for 1 year meant i would be at a healthy weight for the rest of my life i would do it. But instead this is for the rest of my life and i need to find the balance of health and sanity.

My adult beverage of choice is wine -- either white or red, depending on the season and the food I'm likely to drink later. (The taste of the wine is still there for me.)

In winter, I love single malt scotch.

When I drink, I only have one drink (4-5 ounces of wine), and I don't drink every day / night, but usually do on weekends.

I'm the definition of a social drinker (max of 1 drink a day).

Parrot Bay coconut Water margaritas! Tiny little cans about half the size of a soda can. Probably don't have them at a bar, but it's my drink of choice at home or a party. Low in sugar and the coconut Water makes me feel kinda healthy LOL.

The alcohol content is pretty low (my mother in law had one at my house once and asked me if it was non alcoholic) but it's plenty for me! The alcohol hits me hard post sleeve but like many have said, it's gone quickly.

I had a 50th birthday dinner and choose to have my first post-op drink. I had my favorite, a margerita. I ate before the party and it took my 2 hours to drink it, but it was enjoyable. My new eating plsn is for life, so if i want a drink once in awhile i will have one, just can't eat while drinking

Drank wine two months out. Couldn't finish the glass in an hour. Not worth the calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
