My port was very sore for several months. I was told to expect that, Its not unusual. Try not to lay on that side and dont overdue your lifting or housework. It will get better, not to worry! Men seem to bounce back a little faster then we do!

I was banded 6/25, and the port site pain has finally decreased. It does remind me it's there if I roll over onto that side in bed, or twist funny. But I'm happy to report it DOES get better! Just take things day by day.

I'm two weeks out also and I must say the pain does get better. I generally made sure that I moved around and didn't just lay down all day to get some walking in and movement to ensure that my muscles wouldn't stiffen up on me. The pain should subside soon. I can even lay on my port side maybe not the whole entire night but I'm getting there. I don't lift anything over 10 lbs. and I make sure that I bend to tie my own shoes just to say I'm not letting my muscles get stiff. Hang in there.:whoo:

I was banded on 6/25. I was on liquid Tylenol for a couple days but have been good since. Now, a week and a half later, the port site can still be tender at times and I try to watch what I'm doing when rolling around in bed. It comes and goes.

Absolutely call the doc. A little discomfort is one thing but "Still in alot of pain" is not good. Where is this pain? Just near the port site?

Matt

I was banded on Monday (7-2-07) and still in pain. Not so much the incision sites, my back hurts and so does my chest. I've had NV episodes for the past three days and that mostly comes when I've been out and about too long and haven't taken along enough slim fast or Water. Tomorrow, I am doing nothing but loping the recliner! Perhaps the pain will subside... I probably didn't need to go to the Harley dealership today :)

I was banded on June 19th and I had a very similar burning hot fire type of a pain on the port side. From what the surgeon said it has to do with the location of the port in proximity to a nerve ie. the port is resting on a nerve. This pain should subside, mine finally has calmed down a bit. Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
