Tossed out the scale yesterday!

Recommended Posts

And I feel better already. I lasted two weeks with a scale in the house. At first it was ok, I weighed myself every day and when I found I gained a pound or two I was ok with it. I would think about how much salt I had...or if I was dehydrated etc. But yesterday morning I got depressed because my weight was not dropping at all. (I am not a person who has the discipline to only weigh myself once a week.) I realized that for the last week I have been thinking about that number on the scale all day. I also noticed that the negative thoughts about my body and my ability to achieve my weight loss goal were coming back. I was stressing out...I was craving food for comfort.

Soooo...I picked up my scale, walked outside to the dumpster and tossed it in!

I have a follow up visit in the bariatric clinic on September 24th and I will not know how much I weigh until then! :D

I feel so free!

I did the same thing 2 weeks after my surgery. I decided I would only weigh in when I go to the doctor other than that my weight is none of my business right now. :)

Love this!

I can no longer have mood affected daily by a number. Once a month for me, or a dr visit. I know I eat right and exercise enough.

I'm secure ... I've stayed about the same for years... (Except w/ a TT )

Good for you !! I'm not getting weighed again until my 6 week check up in 2 weeks... it's very liberating!

I can't do it. I am addicted to weighing myself every morning. I even write the weight down on the calendar so I can see how much I lost from week to week or month to month. It isn't causing me any frustrations though. Good job to you!

I have a nice bathroom scale that I did not step on until I hit goal. Like others mentioned, I kept to only knowing my weight once or twice a month when at a medical office. It was like a little party twice a month when I would see the new reduced numbers. The only time I ever noticed a stall was during the first month since I had more trips to the bariatrician and my physician. I was happy not knowing whether I was in a stall or not during the rest of my weight loss phase. As long as I was following the rules, tracking, and exercising, then there wasn't much I could do about a stall anyway, other than get worried, stressed, and feel like a failure.

Now in the maintenance phase, I have decided to weigh myself daily so that I'm certain that my weight has stayed the same. Due to bloating, hormones, or Constipation, the scale will go up a couple pounds some morning. Even though I know deep down that the gain is only due to those factors since my diet has not changed, it still messes with my head. I might just throw the scale away too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
