Anyone taking WELBUTRIN for depression?

Recommended Posts

Currently I am on Welbutrin SR 1 X day... but its a hard little purple pill (asprin sized) and I am told by Pharmacist that it CANNOT be crushed.

Has anyone got a good solution/suggestion....????

What other antidepressants is everybody on?:ranger:

I have not had a fill yet so I can only speak for the post op, You should not have any problem with wellbutrin. I take pills much larger than that, just have to drink with them

hi

i'm on wellbutrin XL. i was told it can be crushed by my doctor. however when i crushed it...it tasted like battery acid. so i found a pill splitter and now cut it in half. i actually take the generic one now and it is the size of a horse pill. so the one you take will be alot easier if split in half.

i found the pill splitter in walgreen's. its a blue contraption that can also crush as well as split. a nifty little gadget.

good luck

I take effexor xr but I'm able to open the capsule and take the tiny coated balls inside. wellbutrin did nothing for me, effexor has been a life savor. I was ready to choose effexor over the band if I wasnt able to open it up.

Good luck!

I am taking wellbutrin. I take it at night right before I go to bed. Like you, the Pharmacist told me not to crush them because they are time release. Mine are white, about the size of a baby asprin. I have had one fill and I have had no problem with them at all. Good luck.

No problems with Wellbutrin XL. The generic brand is a little big for me to swallow comfortably so my DR. requested the name brand, it's way smaller....was told NOT to crush or split them cause they are time released.

There is another form of Wellbutrin that can be cut up. That is the one I take. I can actually get it down whole though.

Well I currently am taking buproprion which is the generic form of Wellbutrin. I had the lap band six months ago and have no problem swallowing it so go for it.

I am taking Cymbalta, the wonder drug!! I love that stuff (Welbutrin made me angry)!!!! It is time released, so I have to open the capsule and put the little pellets in apple sauce or pudding. As long as I don't chew the pellets, I'm fine!! HOWEVER. . . .I've only had 1 fill so far, and I can still get the capsule down just fine. But eventually, it'll have to be the pellets.

Michellyoh, I have seen that new cymbalta advertised and have wanted to talk to someone who is taking it. I have been on wellbutrin for a about fifteen years and it's not quite cutting the mustard any longer. Tell me more!

I am taking the generic of wellbutrin XL, which is quite a bit larger than the name brand, but I don't have any trouble.

You people who are cutting your XL drugs in half need to talk to your doctors. The coating on these drugs help them dissolve slower, and if you are cutting them in half, you are rendering that useless... many of the drugs have a non XL form, you would take it 2 times a day instead of only once, but you could crush/cut the pills without a problem.

I take effexor as well. I had to open the capsules for the first few days, but it tasted so awful that I just started taking them whole again and I have no problems. I agree that effexor is a life saver. I tried Celexa before it and it did nothing for me.

I love Cymbalta!!! My dr. started me off on 30 mg for the first month, then 60 mg after that. I experienced slight side effects the first week (fatigue and nausea), but after that, nothing!! It helps with both anxiety and depression. I call it the "wonder drug" because it is wonderful!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
