AYRW71 26 Posted August 14, 2015 I had my surgery and hiatal hernia repair on July 28th. Instead of getting better, it is getting harder and harder to keep ANYTHING down. I have been back to the doctor 2 times and have several meds for nausea and also still on full liquids only. I was told yesterday that I was on the verge of dehydration and could use an IV drip, but I'd have to come back because they were done by appointment and there wasn't a free bed available (smh). I am not getting in any nourishment and starting to feel pretty crappy. Please tell me that someone else has had a similar experience and have come out on the other side. I know there has to be light at the end of the tunnel , I'm just ready to see it.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted August 14, 2015 Has your surgeon mentioned the possibility of being checked for a stricture? That's what always pops into my mind when someone says they can't keep things down and they are getting worse rather than better. Putting that aside, dehydration can make you nauseated and can make it hard to keep things down. Liquids should be your job one -- experiment with different temperatures of fluid: hot, warm, room temp, cold, see what you tolerate best. Take tiny sips constantly. Keep checking in with your medical team as well. Good luck!
Jim in Utah 25 Posted August 14, 2015 I am 3 weeks out and a week ago I started to have problems.. very hard to keep anything down. I know I am not getting the Protein or liquids I need so I know what you're going through. I just feel awful and really regret the surgery at the moment. AYRW71 26 Posted August 14, 2015 What advise has your surgeon giving you? Mine continue to tell me that it will get better, that he's seen this before and although it is miserable it will get better. I wish he would run a test or X-ray to see if it is a stricture or scar tissue because that is what I really feel may be going on. Good luck to you. Hopefully this ill pass and you'll be happy that you had this procedure.
Beachsprite 118 Posted August 15, 2015 Hi I think you need to insist they investigate. That's not normal and can be a sign something is wrong. All the best let us know your outcome.
kristyg705 0 Posted August 15, 2015 Two of my friends and I had the sleeve on 4/1/15. One of the friends had the same thing you are. she got so weak so could barely walk and no meds would help. He finally gave her an IV drip of fluids and put her on Wellbutrin. It was like night and day. She can eat and drink, doesn't vomit and has energy now. She got it in her head after a while that eating=vomiting and couldn't get it out. Turns out hers was anxiety she didn't know she had.
AYRW71 26 Posted August 17, 2015 Thanks for all of the advise and information. I go back to the dotor on Wednesday morning and I am going to insist that he running some test to see if there is a stricture or something else going on. The vomiting has continued and I need something to ease my mind that it's nothing more serious going on. Thanks again
amitchell39 3 Posted August 17, 2015 My daughter is 3 1/2 weeks post op and she is in the hospital as I type this. She has been vomiting with nausea and severe reflux for over a week now. She was very dehydrated and had very low potassium. She's been hooked up to an IV pumping fluids and potassium in her. They did an upper GI on her which didn't really show anything bad . They did an ultrasound and found her pancreas and gallbladder to be inflamed. She has to have a HIDA scan tomorrow and possibly her gallbladder out following. They are also possibly going to do a scope to check for a stricture. She constantly burps and hiccups and is nauseous and vomits white bubble looking stuff. Luckily we are in a great hospital with tons of bariatric surgeons and gastroenterologist's. Go get checked out. My daughter knew something was not right and thankfully we went to the ER and was transferred and admitted from there. Good luck to you and prayers sent your way! AYRW71 26 Posted August 18, 2015 I'm so sorry to hear that, but hopefully this is where things will start to turn around. That sounds exactly like what I've been experiencing. Thank you for the prayers and I'll be praying for your daughter as well. Alicia

AYRW71 26 Posted August 20, 2015 Hello All, I finally got back in to see my doctor yesterday and convinced him to please run some test just to ease my mind. Well thankfully all the test came back fine and he said it would just take some time for me to get over the nausea. I also received an IV for the dehydration, it took just over for hours, but I feel so much better. On mushy foods today and so far it stayed down. Amitchell39, how are you feeling? Still praying that things are looking up of you as well. Thanks again everyone,
