Has anyone had issues with bananas? How soon could you tolerate them? I'm 3 days post op and having horrible muscle cramps so I decided to put half of a banana in a Protein Shake and instantly felt horrible. I didn't start sweating but I did have a higher HR and a slight fever. My stomach hurt and I was very tired. Maybe mild dumping cause it wasn't as bad as others I've heard about. Any ideas?

Shouldn't you just be on fluids 3 days post op?

Yeah I was just trying to stop the muscle cramps. I blended it until it was a liquid consistency with my shake.< /p>

I just had one in a shake at 9 weeks out. And only 1 ounce of it (about 1/3rd of the banana) I would say it is way too soon for you to be having that. The muscle cramps are likely from dehydration not lack of potasium. How much fluids are you drinking?

I had no issues with bananas but I think that 3 days post-op is too soon.

Yeah I just made a dumb decision. I've been trying to get my Water in but omg it is so hard! I've only been able to get in about 30-38 oz of water a day.

I am pretty sure your muscle cramps are from being dehydrated based on your Fluid intake. Definitely this early on that small piece of banana has enough sugar to cause mild dumping.

You just need to do the best that you can with your fluids and also be consistent with them.

Good luck and congratulations!

Please be careful, I think the consistency of bananas us too thick for your new pouch. If you are allowed soft food, stick with yogurt, sf pudding etc. if your pouch tears, it is a really painful process to repair.

I definitely understand. Everything I am drinking is the consistency of Water. I thin my stuff out a lot.

The banana was probably a little too sweet.

I was having major cramping in my calves along with a fever, so I went to the ER to rule out Blood clots. Fortunately I didn't have any. Decided to take magnesium (with surgeon's permission) once a day and they went away. He seemed to think it was dehydration but said it wouldn't hurt to take the supplements. Might have been a fluke, but then again, it might have helped.

I'm not consuming any Protein and I had my surgery 3 days ago. My Dr. said he is more concerned about me getting my fluids in than the Protein and I will start the protein when I see him for my 1 week post op anyway.

I felt very empty, so I got out a small piece of Peanut Butter on the back of a spoon, really just enough to have something that tasted like something. It was all I needed to feel satisfied and now back to my Water.

You should be on stage 2 right now, only Clear liquids unless your doctor instructed otherwise.

I'm really excited about eating more healthy, but sticking to the restrictions is very important to me also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
