toasty 371 Posted August 13, 2015 So I just got my approval from the insurance company, and I my surgery is scheduled for Sept. 11. I know, not a very auspicious day, but it is going to become the first day of my new life. I am so nervous. I have been looking forward to this for over eight months, when I decided I really wanted this surgery, and now it is here I can hardly believe it. Getting the date made it really real for me. I know I am doing the right thing, and I am excited about it (especially after seeing all of the people here who have been so glad they did it), but it is still scary. I just know it is going to get even more so as the date gets closer. Any encouragement appreciated! Any other people out there with a September surgery date? SleeveandRNYchica 1,155 Posted August 13, 2015 I have my final weigh in on 9/3 and then it goes to insurance. I think/hope for a late Sept date! The coordinator said 10-14 days for approval. Congratulations to you!
RKS1983WI 49 Posted August 14, 2015 Congratulations toasty! I'm waiting for my approval, fingers crossed! But they said my surgery will be early to mid September if approved. Did you get a quick response from your insurance?
RKS1983WI 49 Posted August 14, 2015 I know how you feel, I have been excited through the whole process, but now it's scary! It's a major surgery. But hang in there it will all be worth it.
toasty 371 Posted August 14, 2015 Congratulations toasty! I'm waiting for my approval, fingers crossed! But they said my surgery will be early to mid September if approved. Did you get a quick response from your insurance? Yeah, it was unbelievable by my approval came in the day after they submitted it. The scheduler said it was the fastest they have ever seen. They said it is not uncommon to take two weeks or more. I'll send good wishes your way in hopes that your approval comes in soon.
toasty 371 Posted August 14, 2015 I have been waffling back and forth whether to tell the people at work about it. I told my boss yesterday (as soon as I got a firm surgery date). Today I decided, what the hell, everyone is going to know about it anyway when I get back. So I told the office at our staff meeting today. I was surprised at all of the well-wishes from everyone. I don't know what I was expecting, but it felt good to have everyone so positive about this with me. I'm glad I did it. Of course, I still have four weeks until the surgery, but I will be out for four weeks, which is a pretty significant amount of time. Thank goodness for FMLA. toasty 371 Posted August 16, 2015 I'm looking into Vitamins for post-op, and I am wondering whether I should be getting liquid Calcium for the liquid phase of my diet, or if I can use the chewable kind? I am looking at the Bariatric Advantage "chewy bites", because they look tasty, but I am not sure I will be able to tolerate the chewy bites during my first few weeks. Anyone have any suggestions? brenda1949 13 Posted August 16, 2015 I eat the chewy bites chocolate from Bariatric Advantage from about a week out of surgery. I chew it up really good and then swallow it and everything seems to be fine. I like the taste, and I'm getting the caramel also.
MrsAce 18 Posted August 17, 2015 My doctor doesn't want us to take Calcium till 30 days out. My surgery is 8/25 but I have already started taking Bariatric Advantage calcium. I will stop taking them next weekend. 4 days before surgery. I like the flavor.
