Starving at bedtime

Recommended Posts

So every night since I have started eating food at bed time I am starving. Is this normal I'm 5 weeks post op?

@@cole225 I did that pre-op and took some over the counter sleep aid to help me sleep. Careful you'll probably start having dreams about pigging out. I did. Then I'd wake up all freaked out thinking I ate a bunch of junk. :)

This is exactly how I felt last night. Prior to surgery and whenever I was 'dieting' I could cope all day but the evening and before bed was the worst time. I would always feel hungry. Last night for the first time since surgery (3 weeks out today) I felt 'hungry' after 10. My tummy rumbled and it took me right back to when I used to binge before bed or during the night. I was so tempted to have something but I didn't. I just hope its not my old demons back to haunt me

Pre--op, I would love a big bowl of Cereal or vanilla ice cream at bedtime and still would wake up in the middle of the night and eat fruit. What I do now at 20 months out is this: I have a glass of milk with vanilla and a little sweetener in it at bedtime and I keep sugar-free Jello made up in the fridge to satisfy the fruit craving.

I found sometimes that shortly after surgery extreme hunger feeling at night was actually Acid. Don't know if it's the same for you but in those weeks I needed to take some prilosec every day and having a tums around bedtime seemed to really help with that hunger feeling. sleeping with my upper body slightly inclined helped too but mostly it was the acid-reduction that helped. If it's not the acid maybe a little benedryl to help you sleep a little deeper. I find that helps me too when my cravings are a little stronger during that time of the month.

I eat a cheese stick. Or last night I had a couple of ounces of grilled pork chop. As long as it's Protein it should be fine.

I ate pork chop at 11:30 pm last night and still was down a pound this morning.

I eat cucumbers or spinach at night when I'm hungry. If I don't feel like eating some type of green vegetable, then I know I'm not really hungry. Pickles are also good since they usually have 0-5 calories. I'm trying to break out of the habit completely, however, since digesting food at night can disrupt your sleep. Although I've yet to gain any weight whatsoever from night eating.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
