But i stopped like 2 days ago and my throat is still hurting/sore from taking it. I also have not had a bowel movement in 2 days!!!???? is there anything over the counter i can take to help me with this? Help! Thanks anybody!!

Your bowel movements change after surgery. I'm about 4 months out and I maybe have 2 bm's a week if I'm lucky. As long as you're not forcing it out when it happens you really don't need to take anything. But if you are having an issue with hard stool my surgeon recommended Miralax or milk of magnesia. Taking Fiber regularly helps too.

I have had terrible Constipation since surgery. I now take a dose of Miralax daily and eat 4 prunes. If I don't I definitely regret it! This seems to work fairly well for me and I am very grateful to have found a workable solution. I hope you can find something that works for you, too. :(

I had an issue with severe Constipation. I found that eating an apple with the skin just before bedtime relieved the problem. "An apple a day keeps the constipation away". Sounds almost like a jingle. Others on this website have made other recommendations:

Smooth Move Herbal Tea (available in the health food section of Krogers and other grocery stores.)
Prune juice (warmed)
Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
Magnesium citrate
Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears
Aerobic Magnesium 07
Low Fat Bran Muffin (recipe). 80 calories each
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups bran Cereal
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
½ tablespoon applesauce
optional: banana, berries, mini chocolate chips
Bake 400° F for 22 minutes

I am 10 months post op and still struggle with this issue daily. I take a stool softener that has a laxative in it everyday, twice per day. If I still have trouble I drink a glass of miralax.

There is no taste to the miralax and all.

@@James Marusek you had mentioned Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears. I just want to warn everyone....they are effective.....but...those are also known as "H-ell Bears". Please eat those in very small amounts, or you might regret it haha!!! For laughs.....you all may want to check out the reviews on Amazon about these. They are truly hysterical!!! :D

@@Madtownsunshine17,

Definately with Water. You literally don't even know it is in there.

So what I've always done is take Mirilax 1-2 times a day (it depends on how back up I'm feeling) and either take a warm bath once a day, or sit with the heating pad, kind of massaging my lower stomach while I did it. Even before surgery, my BMs haven't always been normal and my system has been extremely picky. A GI doctor I saw once recommend this and it's worked like a charm every time!

@@kimmoffit as long as you are passing gas, and there are bowel sounds, then your bowels are moving, that is probably why he isn't worried. It is when there are no bowel sounds or passing gas...which could be worrisome for bowel obstruction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
