Veteran Sleever having complications

Recommended Posts

I had a revision from a band to a sleeve in 2012 because my band ulcertated. When I had my sleeve, I was told that if it ever ulcerated I'd have have to revise to the bypass. I've been avoiding the symptoms for a year and now I can not eat or have a sip of Water without vomiting. I have heartburn almost always, and I belch frequently. I've moved to another state since surgery, and there are no Bari Surgeons in my area, and the GI dr's won't see me because I've had 5 abdominal surgeries.

Anyway, has anyone had their sleeve ulcerate? What was the treatment? Has anyone had to revise from sleeve to bypass?

I don't know for sure what you mean by "ulcerated," but if you have stomach ulcers that condition is often treated by antibiotics.

Stomach ulcers are often / usually caused by the bacterium H. pylori.

Call your last surgeon and ask him to recommend someone close to where you are. If he doesn't know of anyone tell him your symptoms and ask him what you need to do and where to go. Don't delay this any longer. You could be causing irreparable damage the longer you ignore it. Life is to short, don't delay

@ - call your old surgeon and ask like someone else suggested about another doctor in the area or where to go. if you don't get an answer there I would go to the ER. You can get dehydrated and that would cause grave complications:(

keep us posted.

I flew to Dallas the other day for an appt with a surgeon who was able to get me in next day. My sleeve and esophogas is eroded and I have to have a revision to RNY. I'm on weekly infusions, meds to coat my stomach in hopes of keeping food down, and zofran until surgery. :( I'm so disappointed and scared! I've now failed TWO WLS's!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
