How long was hospital stay?

Recommended Posts

I have my VSG date!!! September 1st is my official date(they had to push it back from the original august 27th)????. I was just wondering how long everyone else's stay in the hospital was. My surgeon says the "norm" for his patients are 1-2 days, meaning 1-2 overnights. Please give me some insight...thanks!

I spent two nights due to nausea and not being able to drink as much as they wanted me to post op.

Just overnight for me. I had no complications, very little nausea and no vomiting. Thank the lord!

I was supposed to only stay one night but I earned an extra night in the hospital because I wasn't able to drink enough Water.

I only stayed one night! My surgeon offered to let me go home a few hours after my procedure because it went so well, but I still insisted on staying the night. And I'm glad I did because I had horrible heartburn that night and needed the nurses!

4 hours! I was released 4 hours after I was moved to recovery! No issues at all and was super happy to be relaxing in my own home. Was off the pain meds within 48 hours.

Less than two weeks post-op and feel like a million bucks!

My program required a 2 night stay. However, I did so well and was feeling so great that they let me leave after one night.

I stayed just one night which is the minimum for sleeve patients with my surgeon and was released when the doc was making her rounds first thing in the morning. Had to wait till paperwork was done and left the hospital around 10:00.

Believe your surgeon!

Most everyone I know of has been home in a day or two unless there is some kind of complication.

My surgery was on Monday and I came home on Tuesday.

I had surgery on Thursday around 5pm and left hospital n the Sunday about 3pm. I felt that was perfect for me.

I stayed three nights because I couldn't drink Water and they had a hard time controlling my pain level. I didn't have any actual complications, and I am glad they held me. I needed IV pain meds and going home too soon would have been doable but very uncomfortable. I think the majority of people stay 1-2 nights.

I'm from Australia so things may be different here but I'm booked for a 5 day stay!

.

I'm from Australia too, but my surgeon has told me it'll be 1-2 nights depending on how I recover.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
