Recommended Posts

Just getting started with the process. Have already had the seminar and have my first visit with my surgeon next week. What's the process like?

Do you have Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield? That's what I have. I had to have the following:

- 6 months supervised weight loss program - my doctor just wrote a letter that I had been doing Weight Watchers under her care

- 2 visits with a psychiatrist

- 2 visits with a nutritionist

- sleep study

- Mammogram

- Pregnancy Test (mind you I'm 52 and can't get pregnant but they still made me do it)

- H pylori test

- Bone density scan

- EKG

- Blood work

- Chest X-Ray

I have Anthem PPO- I had to have 6 months of consecutive visits (So I was able to complete them in just over 4 months- I had one at the end of February, one in March, April, May, June, then one the very beginning of July, it did not have to be a full 183 days) that included medical supervision, nutritionist visits, and exercise counseling, and I had to be cleared by a psychologist. I also had to be medically cleared, but it was a very generic requirement- they did not require any specific tests (although my dr did).

Anthem seems to vary a lot, lot from plan to plan.

I have Anthem blue cross PPO and jt varies depending on what the employer/group has purchased. I had to do much less than most it seems. No six month supervised diet (history of attempts was plenty).

I was under 45 when I had surgery too so I had to do fewer tests.

sleep study (only because I admitted I snored! No sleep apnea though)

Mammogram

General physical and blood work

Ekg

Psych evaluation

One nutrition appointment

I had it all done within 30 days.

Lol they let me skip the pregnancy test as I have had my tubes tied and went into early menopause about a year and a half before surgery

I had an ablation and my husband had a vasectomy and they still made me take a pregnancy test. I had to take one before and one right the morning of surgery. When I had my revision in June I had to have one the morning of surgery again. I thought it was rather funny. And menopause has been around since 2006.

I have Anthem BCBS of OH and everything I read showed 6 months but the insurance person at my doc said it was 3 months and showed me the policy. Careful what you read online as I have heard so many different versions just hoping the insurance pro at my doc is correct - she says she double and triple checked....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
