Barium Swallow Shows Band Not in Right Place...But Not a Slip...?

Recommended Posts

Had my yearly Barium swallow today. The radiologist says he wouldn't call it a "slipped" band but instead of sitting at a 45 degree angle it is sitting more horizontally then it should. He says it might be a precursor to a slippage. I haven't had any real pain, except when my stomach is empty. Then I have the knife feeling - like I have to get something in my stomach.

Has this happened to anyone? At 7.5 years out I feel lucky that this is my first mechanical problem with the band (I've been tight before).

Thanks. I hope that it only helps me to get a revision to RNY, and that of course I don't end up in ER.

BTW a barium swallow is a normal (yearly) part of having a band. Nothing hard about it!

Spoke to my Dr. , he said band is not in the best position but he has seen worse. He doesn't think it will effect me, but it might help to have insurance remove it. Of course I want a revised surgery to RNY, not just my band removed!
