I just saw on another post that many people experience Hair loss? !?! I have very very thick hair and lots of it...I often joke that it's a lion's mane! I heard it may thin out (which is kinda okay with me)...but how bad is the hair loss? Are we talking bald Patches? (I'm only 4 weeks out of surgery)

I am 7 weeks out of surgery and haven't noticed anything yet. I talked to my NUT and they said that it can happen, but not all the time, just depends on how your body handles everything. Make sure you take all your Vitamins and get all your Protein in.

I was unaffected by hair loss. So it depends on the person. If you do not get sufficient daily Protein, Hair loss can result.

Even if you do get sufficient Protein, hair loss can happen. Since about a month after surgery, I've consistently gotten over 100g of Protein a day and still had it happen to me. I think I'm the only one who notices it, but it still really bothered me. Fortunately, a couple of weeks ago, I pulled my hair back and laughed out loud when I saw this little 2 inch corona of baby hairs framing my head- looks like it's growing back- yay! :D

I've been losing hair for the last 3 was or so (I'm 13 was post-op). It seems to be an all over kind of thing for me - no Patches that I can see. I have a thick head of hair so I'm not too concerned - I went through the same kind of Hair loss postpartum with all 3 of my pregnancies and when it was all said and done my hair grew back in just fine. Hopefully it's no different this time.

Hair loss months for me now, I don't like it, beside loosing hair and I had a lot of them, they are thinning out and just weird. I had a full head of curls now they have a weird texture, I'm considering cutting very short but I don't know if is a good idea. I heard that nothing helps. I'm 5 months out

I'm about 4 month out and my hair just started to fall out a little. No Patches though. My hair has always been thin, and the longer it is the thinner it gets. I had to cut it shoulder length, and I've noticed less Hair loss. Keeping it short helps. I also use a leave in conditioner that is meant to strengthen and repair damaged hair. It's called infusium 23. I have noticed my hair falls out less when I use it.

At about 3 1/2 months I started losing my hair (no bald patches) it lasted for 2 months and then stopped.

It's perfectly normal, Vitamins or not. It will stop in a month or two.

I am 4 wks post op. I noticed because lack of Protein my hair fell out a lot especially during showers. I don't have bald spot but it is thinner than before.

I started taking Biotin and found a Biotin shampoo/conditioner for 1 week now and notice my hair is not so fragile.

Bgirl505,

hair loss all depends on how your body handles the stress of all the rapid weight loss. The good news is, you should not have bald Patches, it simply sheds all over.

I am one of the unlucky people who has had massive shedding. Like you, I have a very very thick head of hair. I have lost about 3/4 and still have lots.

I have talked to numerous doctors and people who have been through it.

Mine started in month 2 and I am 10.5 months post op and it is still coming out. People told me it should only last a month or a couple months. So when I got to be six months and it started coming out faster yet, I got scared.

All of the bariatric team members including my surgeon told me that it could certainly continue until my weight loss slowed down ir stopped. I think they are right about that because mine continues.

Just to let you know, not getting your Protein in and having low Iron can make it worse for some. I have hit my Protein goals since we 3 post op and my blood tests shows I am getting all of my nutrients. So for me, I guess I am just one of the unlucky ones.

I cut my hair into a short bob which looks lovely and there really only two people that can even tell, my husband who sees it everywhere on the floor, tub and yes, sometimes it falls out in the kitchen, the other person is my stylist.

My hair texture has changed as well, it is very course and kind of develop more of a kinky shape.

I have been taking Biotin which helps with regrowth and I have tons of little new hairs popping up everywhere.

For me, I am no longer freaking out about this because I know I won't go bald in places and it will come back.

Hopefully it won't happen to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
