James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 12, 2015 You should be walking from the get-go. Walk some every day. Individuals normally don't loose a lot of weight the first week. When they are in the hospital for the operation, they fill you full of fluids, so when you come out you are heavier than when you went in. You first have to lose that weight. Pinkpeonies1 87 Posted August 12, 2015 Hi New. I've lost 15lbs since surgery a week ago. I am not doing anything other than walk as much as I can at home than drinking a total of 64-70 oz of liquids a day. Out of the liquid intake, 70 grms are Protein. I am blessed to be able to tolerated clear Water, Isopure and premiere protein. Sometimes chicken broth hits the spot. Good luck and don't rush it. Remember there will be stalls along the way but right now you have to give your body time to adjust.
Gingerish 113 Posted August 12, 2015 I'm down 10 lbs almost 2 weeks, was probably about where you are at one week. Each body is different, I'm having trouble keeping up with walking right now due to heat. But at work I make sure I get up and do a few walks around the office. Hopefully the next few weeks I'll add some more mileage under my belt like the first few days.
geronimo 52 Posted August 12, 2015 In terms of exercise, I was told that for the first 6 weeks no heavy lifting 15lbs or higher, but I could do as much cardio as I wanted - walking, jogging, running - as long as it didn't cause pain.
jennysayscheese 23 Posted August 14, 2015 I lost 10 my first week and stalled since. I just started pureed and soft foods so doc says I should be getting out of starvation stall soon!
Brandon Long 4 Posted August 16, 2015 i lost 20 pounds within 5 days of surgery, but i am also a male and weight a lot just like if you are pursuing weight loss the old fashion way it all depends on different aspects of your life.
jess9395 5,449 Posted August 16, 2015 Everyone is different! Lots of things in play. Did you do a pre op diet? If you lost weight pre op your first week post op won't be a high because you already lost the big Water weight drop people often lose the first week of any diet. I lost an amazing amount my first week (17lbs) but I didn't have a pre op diet, even so my doc said at my one week follow up not to trust that loss and not to stress if it went up. It didn't, but I hit the "three week stall" right after at two weeks while my body caught up. It's a marathon, not a sprint!
