Hi all,

I have two question for you. I am currently 29 days post op. I am feeling pretty good and the incisions have healed well. I do however have one incision next to the belly button that is larger than the rest that they use for the larger tools and to remove the stomach from. My doctor put in a single stitch to keep the abdominal wall muscle together to prevent hernia from occurring while I healed, he says he does this to most if not all vsg patients, kind of a better safe than sorry approach. What he can't control is the fact the dissolvable stitch is place in/on a nerve, so sneezing, laughing, coughing standing, sitting etc. etc. really tugs on it and it hurts like hell, sharp burn not fun.

Has anyone else had this happen?

How long did it take before it "dissolved" and you could move without pain?

It is really hampering the workout efforts..

I did see surgeon, he said it could take up to six months.

I hear you Brother, I have the same issue, but I have so many aches and pains they all blend into one another, I'm approaching 30 days post Op. July 14 was when I got sleeved, The past 10 days it's hurt a lot less but the first few weeks it was almost unbearable, I did all I could do to avoid the pain but I also didn't want to baby it, so i eased into a little more movement each day, BUT like they say,We are all different.

Best of Wishes

Glad to hear I'm not alone. We were sleeved 1 day apart, mine was the 13th. Hope it gets better for us both, good luck!

Hmmm.... I don't know how a dissolvable stitch compares to the hundreds of permanent stitches I have in my ab muscles from my Tummy Tuck with muscle repair four years ago, but I don't think it took me more than a couple of months to get to where I could sneeze, cough, and laugh without pain. I wasn't allowed to do any ab exercises for MANY months post-op. But I would think that if you just have the one stitch and it will dissolve eventually, then you shouldn't have much more than a month of pain left.

@@mdslc Oh that sucks, hopefully the fat loss will change some of the pressure.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
