I got some wonderful news

Recommended Posts

Well due to me having Medicare in Chicago with an BMI OF 60 I am only required blood work, a Pap smear, mammogram, a letter from my PCP and my Psychiatrist and a sleep study, along with a 3 hour prep class on what to expect after surgery and I will be done with my requirements. I have my blood work done on the 8/6 I have my pap scheduled on 8/26 I have contacted my Psychiatrist and my PCP for the letter and the sleep study I'm waiting on a call back. This is wonderful news I'm so excited

I'm really getting mad (venting) I don't have sleep apnea yet my surgeon is requesting a sleep study. My PCP order it but because it's not on there request form or in there system they want to send my PCP this long questionnaire which my PCP feels that the surgeon should fill out which I totally agree my PCP is just doing the surgeon a favor by getting involved. This is a battle war and I want out????????????????????

Are they wanting your PCP to fill it out maybe because they think your PCP knows you better than the surgeon does?

When I started the process, my PCP ordered my sleep study before my surgeon even requested it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
