My Big day is Tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

My process went really quick since I have a small window to make this happen. I am excited for results, but nervous for the recovery part. With 2 kids at home I hope to heal quick. Luckily I have good support and help.

Anyone have issues in social situations? I have a family party 10 days post op... Just nervous about getting through it.

Thanks,

Hi @@klo319, I have my surgery tomorrow too! Plus I am flying down to Tijuana tomorrow too, and surgery is same day. I am keeping my fingers crossed that there are no airplane delays, cuz timing is really tight.

How have you found your pre-op diet? I was told to have only liquids for 3 days prior to surgery. I did full liquids the first day, then have been doing Clear Liquids today and will do same tomorrow. I find that I'm not all that hungry, so I think a social situation wouldn't be any problem. Stick to what you are allowed - by then you should be allowed full liquids, or maybe even soft mushy food. Take with you what you will need, like a couple of tea bags, a bottle of apple juice, whatever you like. Maybe some yogurt cups, or make yourself a Protein shake to take with you. Hopefully you won't be tempted to eat, since that would likely put you in pain, and you might be sick. You don't want that at a family gathering!

Well, good luck! Where are you having yours done?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
