Roxie Malone 10 Posted August 11, 2015 Guys I'm hurting. There's horrible cramping, getting in and our of bed is a nightmare and at the moment I'm really regretting my decision. How long will this last???
megmom757 113 Posted August 11, 2015 It will get better everyday. The first couple days are the worst. Stay on top of the pain medication. Good thoughts headed your way. Feel better soon. Also walk as much as you can. I know it don't seem like it will help but it does.
AngelaWilliamsMD 290 Posted August 11, 2015 Be sure to walk, walk, walk!
megmom757 113 Posted August 12, 2015 If getting out of the bed is hurting make sure you use a pillow to hold against your stomach.
wheezysmom 146 Posted August 12, 2015 It will get better! It took about a day for the pain to subside. Walking around really does help.
ddlxray 21 Posted August 12, 2015 It gets better!! Day of surgery I was like "I'm so excited!" Next 2 days after, I want so excited anymore. It hurt. But after a few more days, it wasn't bad at all. Everyone is right about walking, don't stay in bed! Praying you feel better!
Roxie Malone 10 Posted August 12, 2015 Update - I'm going on 48 hours and am doing better, but I'm still pretty miserable. I keep getting cramps in my upper chest, they say they had to inflate my chest cavity. Still not 100% behind my decision but you're support is helping. Gingerish 113 Posted August 12, 2015 Get up and walk, that will help the gas go away. If you can't get out of bed yourself, call for a helping hand. But definitely walk walk walk it'll push the gas out.
tjstark 74 Posted August 12, 2015 That'd be the gas. Walking & peppermint tea will help. If allowed, maybe a Gas-X/Windeze. It will go away soon and you'll be feeling a lot better!
Abbie213 2 Posted August 12, 2015 Gas x, walk , sf freeze pops and walk- you need to walk a lot in the beginning to get the air out!.
Hello new me 153 Posted August 12, 2015 It will get better! I had surgery on 8/6. I am still not sure how I made it through the first couple of days. I had surgery and came home the same day (don't get all the great pain meds). I can say that I am 6 days out now and feeling much better. I am not taking anything for pain now. I can get up and move around by myself. I do still have a lot of pressure in my stomach and get tired easily, but so much improved from the first couple of days. Hang in there! KarenF1972 78 Posted August 13, 2015 When I woke up from surgery I HURT!!! I had them get me an abdominal binder. I didn't use it in the hospital but it did help me at night when I was trying to sleep in bed at home. It will get better!!
TexasGal82 25 Posted August 17, 2015 How are you feeling Roxie? Any better? It looks like we were sleeved the same day (8/10). My first 24 hours were pretty miserable, I actually broke down and cried twice. Day 2 was significantly better and by Day 3, I was great EXCEPT for the gas pains. Oh Sweet Jesus, the gas PAIN!!!! Rounding out Week 1 now and I still feel like I have an ice pick in my left shoulder and every now and then for no apparent reason, someone decides to twist it and it tightens up my whole chest and takes my breath away. Doctor says to walk, walk, walk. Well, I'm doing that and maybe it has helped but it's still there and at times paralyzing. I'm doing the GasX strips also. I'm hoping that it's just Phrenic nerve irritation and that time will make it go away completely. I'd love some tips if anyone has experienced something similar! dashofsunshine 875 Posted August 17, 2015 The gas pain is very common, very brutal, and mine didn't go away completely for about a week and a half. I remember being at home in my bed and sobbing because my shoulder felt like someone had impaled it. Every day will be easier. You had major, massive internal surgery. Your body is pissed, haha. Give it time, take your pain meds, walk, and ride it out. I promise - it WILL pass. The surgery IS worth the pain, though I know it doesn't feel that way now. Good luck!!!
