So tired of people saying you dont need surgery!

Recommended Posts

I have had so many people that say you dont need surgery. Or even people that say you're taking the easy way out. UMMM by reading what I have read so far about this surgery...it is not the easy way out! I wish people realized what all I will have to go thru. And I absolutely need this surgery, if not for my health, for my sanity. I cannot stand the person I have become. Cant find anything to wear, my closet full of cute clothes dont fit, I have gained 50 lbs in 10 months, cant bend down to shave my legs for crying out loud, dont want to have sex with hubby of 20 years, I cut my hair off because I am too lazy to fix it, out of breath, dont want to go to parties or summer events involving bathing suit.....the NEED for surgery is crutial to my mental well being. I feel so excited about my surgery and I want to shout it to the roof tops. Then when I do I get this reaction. What a bummer! People are so mean some times.

Far from the easy way out. We all know the truth! This is YOUR life and YOUR body, who gives a crap what "they" say. If you want it, then be happy and we will support you! Best of luck!

I know how you feel which is why I've only told 3 people. Today when I went for my EKG the nurse asked if I've had this done before. I said no ma'am. She then asked if this was for some kind of pre op. I said yes ma'am for Dr asad. She then asked what surgery and there it was, "well youre not gonna do THAT are you?!? You're no bigger than me!" so the whole time she was asking me questions and giving me the stink eye and attitude. Lets just say I stopped calling her ma'am after five minutes of being there ????

@@Shellbell619 I'm beginning to think it's just something people say like when your pregnant and the first thing people ask is "is it your first"? I heard that so many times about Not needing surgery it was ridiculous. I was 267lbs at what point do I need surgery then? Once I'm dead? Yep she should have had surgery. Lol! Just say thanks and move it along....unfortunately for them you get to decide that. :)

Thank you so much! And just so you know, the same people that said I shouldn't have surgery, are the ones that keep telling me that I need to stop losing weight! I just say uh-huh and keep on doing what I want!

I purposely didn't tell many people about my surgery because I am a sassy girl and I know I'd get into some fights with people who tried to say it's the easy way out! My sleeve was far from easy! The good thing is that the weight has come off at a relatively normal pace (about 2lbs a week or around 10 lbs a month on average) so people just think it is my new food choices and exercise. While my weight loss is from that it is also from the fact that my stomach is tiny and my cravings have been majorly curbed with the surgery. It has really just been an aid for me - not the sole reason I lost weight. Good Luck!

And see, I would have wanted to say, "I know we are about the same size! Have you considered weight loss surgery?" Lol

Several people have said the same thing...."you don't need the surgery" yes I do! I weight 240 lbs and I'm 5'4 I am morbidly obese. I've decided not to be so forthcoming with people, to much negativity.

Stories like this make me so mad. These are supposed to be medical "professionals".... why aren't they conducting themselves in a professional manor? You should definitely report her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
