What do you do when you are a picky eater, and now you dislike most of the things you need to assist in your weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I dislike so many of the Protein choices (like eggs, Peanut Butter, etc) and couldn't wait until I could incorporate things I love, like chicken, turkey, tuna, but since having the surgery I don't like the texture of certain foods. At all. I force myself to eat them because Protein intake really does contribute to weight loss...but discouraged by the fact the little I did like, just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Has anyone else ever had this experience? if so, what did you do to combat it?

I have a similar problem with textures. Fortunately, a lot of the short list of foods I can eat without wanting to gag are things that work for WLS. Part of my problem with food for most of my life is a problem with a lot of fruits and veggies, or rather the texture of them. It's not just healthy foods, its also foods like popcorn, pretzels, chips, hamburger... the list goes on. I think something that helped me was to do a LOT of research on alternate methods of getting your Protein in. There's also a chance that your body will eventually become not only accustomed to these foods but grow to crave it. What are some foods that you do like and that have a lot of Protein? Maybe I can give you some suggestions based on your texture likes and dislikes.

I have found that adding unflavored Protein powder and unflavored liquid Protein are my friends. I plan to use them in anything I can because there are so many things I really don't like. Good luck and share any good recipes you find.

I am 5 weeks post op and am finding myself in a similar boat. I just don't really like anything anymore. I almost gagged with tuna, and enjoyed it before. I mix unflavored Protein Powder with my yogurt, retried Beans, pudding, etc to get my Protein in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
