Awesome, I get so tired of people doing #4, 7, & how soon can I have alcohol. I am like what? I never plan to let any of those things cross my lips again.

I love this article! The problem is the people who NEED to read aren't likely to. :(

This was a great read.

This article answers a lot of questions people have and I believe EVERYONE should read this before getting the surgery. It is so brutally honest and I think it is what people need to hear.

My doctor is former military and very strict. He was ultra-conservative about my care. I have a friend that had the exact same surgery as me, a month later. Her doctor was not strict at all. A week post-op, she was eating cream of potato Soup. She showed me her doctors orders and it said nothing about Clear liquids then creamed liquids, then pureed foods, etc... She expected the surgery to be a magical procedure where she would instantly lose weight without modifying her diet and not exercising. As a result, I'm down 105 pounds and have met my goal weight. She's lost 35 pounds and blames in on her fibromyalgia, bad back, bad knee, blah, blah, blah....

It really is a travesty that some people get so little information from their surgical teams about post-op diet and activity. I personally would take it upon myself to research that stuff if I hadn't been given it, but I know a lot of people won't do that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
