So...surgery was 7/14, lost 11 lbs the first week, 5 lbs the second week, then gained 5 lbs, stayed there for two weeks, then this past Sunday, I had lost those 5 plus one and THEN this morning back up another 4.

I am on the pureed stage...can someone PLEASE tell me that this is normal...need encouragement please.

You will go up and down during the week, I was only down about 18 my first month...I remember thinking, THAT'S ALL?!?!?

10 months out and down 110 lbs it does not seem so bad, but at the time I was really upset.

I strongly recommend not stepping on the scale everyday...I weigh in once a week to save myself that crazy feeling when we go up in weight.

Follow your plan, drink the Water, get out and move everyday it will change.

It's perfectly normal for weight to fluctuate from day to day just due to things like Water retention. Remember, one cup of Water weighs half a pound. You should be drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. That's 4 pounds. So even retaining a portion of that can cause fluctuations on the scale. It's not like it's actual fat. You aren't gaining 5 pounds of FAT in a week or 4 pounds of FAT in a day! Stick to your plan. Trust in the process. And the scale will trend downward.

It's also very important not to compare yourself to others. I have been a "slow loser" through this whole process and I really struggled with the frustration in the early days when I "only" lost 14 pounds my first month while others were dropping 20-30 pounds. You know what? I'm 4 pounds from goal now, 11 months out, and what does it matter whether I lost the weight fast or slow?!?! I lost the weight and I'm now happier and healthier. That's what matters!

Definitely if I had to give ONE word of advice to all new and future WLS patients it would be "patience". Everything about the entire journey requires patience. You have to be patient while awaiting insurance approval and all the hoops to jump through pre-op. You have to have patience awaiting your surgery date. You have to have patience to make it through your pre-op diet. You have to have patience about moving between the food stages post-op. You have to have patience with the scale. You have to have patience with your sleeve and how it handles new foods. You have to be patient with YOURSELF at you are relearning how to eat. Your family has to have patience with you..... Patience is definitely the key to long-term success and sanity. You will drive yourself completely crazy without it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
