11 years post op, have gained 40 lbs, need to get rid of it.

Recommended Posts

I am 47 years old in menopause and I have an enlarged thyroid. I am considering the 21 day fix, by Autumn and beachbody, any advice? does anyone know if it will work? It seems like an awful lot of food...but I am willing to try it. Someone please tell me what to do, I do not want this weight back, and I am desperately seeking advice before I buy this plan.

Consider all the $ you've spent in the past. Consider all the "programs" you've tried in the past. Did it make a difference? If you're Dr. (bariatric surgeon) is still in the area, consider asking him/her first. If you're willing to go on a program, perhaps the original bariatric rules would work just as well and cost less. Just a thought. I myself gained back 60 of the 108 lbs I'd lost. I ended up having a revision. But my Dr. was very supportive and worked with me before we came to that decision. Good luck.

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the body lacks sufficient thyroid hormone. Since the main purpose of thyroid hormone is to "run the body's metabolism," it is understandable that people with this condition will have symptoms associated with a slow metabolism. The estimates vary, but approximately 10 million Americans have this common medical condition. In fact, as many as 10% of women may have some degree of thyroid hormone deficiency.

One of the symptoms of hypothyroidism in weight gain or increased difficulty in losing weight.

Because the body is expecting a certain amount of thyroid hormone the pituitary will make additional thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in an attempt to entice the thyroid to produce more hormone. This constant bombardment with high levels of TSH may cause the thyroid gland to become enlarged and form a goiter (enlarged thyroid).

Left untreated, the symptoms of hypothyroidism will usually progress. Rarely, complications can result in severe life-threatening depression, heart failure, or coma.

Goiters and some other thyroid conditions can be treated with radioactive iodine therapy. The aim of the radioactive iodine therapy (for benign conditions) is to kill a portion of the thyroid to prevent goiters from growing larger or producing too much hormone;

I feel that rather than focusing on the weight gain, the better focus should be correcting the enlarged thyroid. I recommend you discuss this issue with your doctor.

James; good observation and valid point. I focused on the wt. gain and forgot about her mentioning the thyroid!! Good job!!

This s my biggest fear with this surgery.....having the bypass, not setting a low enough goal to reach and gaining weight back over time.

I've got to find a way to stay accountable daily and make ongoing adjustments that will lead to losing and maintaining the weight loss.

I don't see what this 21 day fix can offer that you can do for your self. Measure your calorie intake, burn calories doing exercise and being active and use the bypass tool that you had. Spend the money instead on a comfortable pair of gym shoes and begin to wear them out getting your miles in.

At the same time it seems wise to get you medical stuff reviewed by your doctor.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
