Food Buddy

Recommended Posts

Prior to surgery I would eat out a lot and not give it a second thought on how much I spent. The other day at work I decided I wanted a Gyro so I told my friend that I would buy for the both of us. Each meal was $10.95 each plus tax and $6.00 delivery, total was something around $30. I took two bites before I started to feel full. that is when it hit me, I realized I used to spend a lot of money on food! I was telling my friend that when she said "I told you we should have split one meal". Crap had I heard that I could have saved money! So now we decided to be food buddies, we will split meals since we both don't eat much. haha. Anyone find a food buddy?

It's a great idea, I've got my sister, who has never been a big eater and it's great because we pretty much like the same things

My husband is my food buddy. He had a bypass 9 years ago, and although he can pretty much eat normal portions now, since I had my surgery we split our meals at restaraunts. It keeps him in check with his portions, and helps our wallet. Win win!

My husband is my food buddy. Like you, I always spent a lot of money on food and now I'm super cheap. I don't want to pay for a whole entree when I will only eat a few bites. I just bum food off of my husband's plate or get a Soup or small salad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
