The #1 reason that I had the RNY is still an issue.

Recommended Posts

I had this surgery, not only to lose weight, but to combat diabetes (supposedly type II). I've lost a total of 45 pounds (I had the surgery 3/23/15). Initially I had minor improvement with my A1C and was feeling hopeful that I'd be off of meds within the next couple of months. My endicrinologist (sp),dropped the bomb on me and told me I "may" have other underlying issues and I am back to 5 shots per day. Low doses, but still back where I started. Trying not to let it get me down. But it's hard not to feel some kind of way about it.

Anyone else have these kind of issues?

I have Type 1 Diabetes and had RNY, 6 months ago, I've lost 63 Pounds and my HBA1C has dramatically improved and I take much less Insulin than before, I think you have to give yourself a reality check that Type 1 Diabetes is for Life, and just think positively about losing weight and getting healthier!

That's the thing, I was diagnosed as type II...but not they they are saying I was either misdiagnosed and/or I have other underlying issues. But, like you said, I am thankful I am not on as much insulin as before. It's a reality check that I am still going to have to maintain a specific/healthy diet to combat my diabetes. I got kind of lax, once I was able to eat again. I am not happy about it, but at least I have better control.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
