Food dreams and cravings

Recommended Posts

I am almost 2 weeks post surgery and lately I have been having all of these realistic food dreams! They're great until reality sets in. On top of that, I am constantly craving normal food! This liquid diet is the pits after so long. I just want to chew something! And I haven't lost any weight in a week!

I'm also almost two weeks post-op. I had those dreams right after getting home from the hospital. In my dreams, I was binging on food - a dozen donuts, a bunch of tacos, ice cream - the whole time thinking to myself that this is wrong. I asked my doctor if these dreams were normal and he said he never heard of it before! I thought it was just me! I too am craving any texture in my mouth - other than yogurt and pudding. Thursday will be the first day of pureed foods and I can't wait. My weight loss hasn't stalled yet, but I know it's usually around this time when it does. I'm mentally preparing myself for that!

I have no idea if such dreams are "normal" or not, but I can tell you that I still have smoking dreams - even though I quit smoking 20 years ago! I think it may just be part of addiction.........so I'm really not surprised that some people have food dreams after WLS.

Cheri_ mine were about chewing choc chip Cookies, the next day I was supermarket sweeping all the goodies, and then later I was eating a spaghetti dinner lol. Wed is my doc day pureed starts then. I think the dreams must be normal. I am so tired of drinking my meals, Tomato Soup ,yogurt and pudding!!!!

I had my first one last night! I am three weeks pot-op and DYING to chew! In my dream I was eating an enchilada-I was congratulating myself in my head that I had moved to soft foods but, then realized that I was eating SUPER fast and got scared that I would rip my sleeve. How's that for an anxiety dream?? I keep trying to focus on the 21 pounds I have lost since the surgery but, my mouth still wants to chew something... Oh well, 9 more days of mushy stuff for me.

I hear you! I am just so frustrated right now. I eat what I'm supposed to, which isn't much compared to before.....and I've only lost 10lbs post op, which was all in the first week. I walk and exercise. Grrrrrrrrr

My Nut said that in the first month there is a stall when your body sort of stops to re balance lost Water weight. She said you lose a lot in the first week or two then stop for a week, then drop some more. I am starting my stall now so I am trying really hard to keep in mind what she said and know that eating <400 calories per day will mean I HAVE to lose at some point! I bet you are just in that re-balancing phase a big woosh is headed you way! When was your surgery?

My surgery was July 29. I lost ten lbs the first week and nothing more. Weeks two, nothing. I have no problem drinking water.....I drink about 80 oz just in Water, and my caloric intake is 400-500 or less. So I think the same- eventually something has to give! But maybe your NUT is right. I see my doc/surgeon tomorrow so ill.let you know what he says!

Ok, my doc said our stomachs aren't made for just liquids, they are made for food. So after surgery, your body can go into starvation mode, which is what mine has been doing. He said I will see more improvements now that I have started pureed food.

that stall is *really* common. I stalled weeks 2 and 3 and then dropped like 5 or 6 lbs during week 4. Hang on - it'll happen! Almost everyone goes through that stall, from what I've seen on the boards I'm on

Mine stopped once I was able to move past the liquid diet phase.

I had dreams of chocolate chip Cookies for months. I don't even eat those. Not even tempting. So funny. I hit a stall on week three. Lasted a few weeks then it dropped like crazy.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
