I am planning on getting the gastric sleeve done. I've noticed that a lot of people that have had the gastric bypass end up looking very old in the face after losing the weight. My question is, does this happen with the gastric sleeve? I don't want to end up looking older than I am. I'm 45 and I have been told I look 34-35 years old. I take good care of my face so I'm hoping I won't end up looking 10 years older. Does anyone have any feed back on this? Thank you!

Kym

Losing weight is going to make most people look a bit older because they don't have as much fat to fill out their wrinkly bits on their faces. It doesn't have to do with what surgery you have or how fast you lose.

It has zero to do with how you lose the weight. It has everything to do with how much weight you lose, genetics, age, etc. There's really no way to predict how it will work out for you unless you've lost significant amounts of weight in the past and can sort of judge based on that.

Agree with all the above, no way to know until it happens. Age is a number tho so embrace it and live on as a thinner you!!

After I lost 120, I was told I look 10 years younger from many people. As a matter of fact, nobody told me I looked older, so, not everyone has that experience.

Now that I think about it, I can't say I have ever met anyone who has lost a signigicant amount of weight, through WLS or any other way, looks olders. I've always found they look so much healthier, and yes, younger.

I look way younger since I lost 90+ pounds.

What others said: your age, how much you lose, your genetics, your skin care regimens, your hair stylist's skills, and (of course) your aesthetician and your plastic surgeon. :)

FTR, I haven't had any surgery or injections yet. But I very well might.

I had a hospital hallway consultation last fall with the area's leading plastic surgeon who said I had to finish losing weight and maintain my weight for a 12 months before he'd even put a needle in me, much less use a scalpel on me.

I don't know whether this helps you at all, but here are two photos of my face. One was taken in July 2008 (so 7 years ago) when I weighed about 100 pounds more than I do now. My husband weighed about 50 pounds more at the time. The second photo was taken two weekends ago at Niagara Falls. So we are 7 years older in the second photo, but have both lost significant amounts of weight:

I actually look younger. In 30years old. About 5 months post op. I have to keep a beard now or people think I'm very young lol. I think not just depends on the person and how their face is shaped along with tons of other factors in sure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
