DrewzWife 65 Posted August 10, 2015 How long after surgery will it take before I can drive again? And what are some things that I need to have on hand at the house while I recovering? Are there any certain food that I need?
megmom757 113 Posted August 10, 2015 As long as your on narcotics you shouldn't drive. I would plan on at least a week. Stock up on broths, yogurt, sugar free Popsicles, sugar free Jello and puddings and eggs. Make sure you have your Protein Drinks to start on. Your nut should give you a list for your first weeks at home. Good luck to you.
ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted August 10, 2015 I drove on Day 4 after surgery as I stopped pain meds day 3. For sure be off the pain meds before driving. The list from @@megmom757 is dead on depending on your plan. Stock up according to the meal plan given to you by your team. Good luck!!
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted August 10, 2015 As others have said, you should be able to drive as soon as you are off your pain meds. My advice to you is to not stock up TOO much on post-op food/beverages. Some people really experience a change in their tastes post-op, so something you love pre-op, may be disgusting to you post-op. You might end up throwing away a lot if you buy too much and don't like it. Also, shopping is a good way to get out of the house and get some steps in in those early days post-op. If you have someone who can drive you to the store and carry heavy items for you, it might be nice for you to be able to get out and do a little shopping in those early days.
