I was sleeved last Tuesday and other group I'm in saying they had complications as well as leaks. .and I don't wanna dwell on that cause I did what was best for me and my body

I'm getting sleeved next week I also have developed some concern about this .. It's taking everything out of me to call the surgery off I'm that afraid but I also realize everyone is different and out body types are different so complications vary.

So true and I feel like I did what was best for me my health and my kids. I'm already diabetic and didn't won't to get any other health issues. So going to keep praying and do what my doctor says. To stay away from possible leaks. ...I wasn't scared or nerves until I heard other I'm the group talking about it.

So I'm with you either way you choose and I pray everything goes good with your sleeve. Keep me informed

@@lachellove @@MoniqueMcCoy - anything is possible but why worry about what you cannot really control at this point? I felt the same way and the other concern was the hair loss. I am a little over three months post and I am down 70lbs from my HW about 6 months ago. Follow your doctors & NUTs instructions and breathe and try to relax.

I can also tell you that you may feel buyers remorse for a couple of days post-op.

Like WTH did I just do to myself???? I had it on day two, first full day home. I realized there was no going back (stomach was in a bio-hazard container somewhere headed to God knows where...). I really didn't have any post-op issues either - no nausea, gas pains, etc. I just grasped the whole idea that it was DONE. Funny thing is I realized within about a day that I NEEDED this surgery to LIVE the rest of my life without huffing & puffing, sweating & squeezing, getting bigger & bigger...

NO REGRETS!!!

I had a little wobble too on day 3, sitting in my hospital room thinking what the hell, this is FOREVER. I had researched WLS for a long time, made my decision to have it in a logical informed manner but still had that wobble. I think along the way we all have them, something will happen and we won't have the wonderful feeling of ' Yayyyy I'm sleeved and wow I can now control my eating' and it will be a twitch or pain we will think is some sort of problem. Or someone will be talking abut a problem they have and we will worry it will happen to us. However that's the beauty of Bariatricpal, you can come here and discuss with people who understand, who can support you and who have a vast range of knowledge. Don't worry about what is happening to others, concentrate on you and your future.

Congratulations on your surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

~Gentle hugs~

Kate

Leaks are very rare. But, according to my surgeon, the biggest cause of leaks after surgery is steroid use.

The best thing to do to avoid leaks is to follow your post-op instructions and stay in touch with your surgeon, especially if you have another doctor prescribing something for you. (Actually, he said the biggest cause of leaks is other doctors prescribing steroids...).

If you have to go to the emergency room for anything, especially during the first three to four months, be sure and have your surgeon on speed dial.

Follow your program and you should be just fine.

Best of luck with your surgery.

And follow your post op diet. If you eat solid food too early, that is a risk. I had a friend who had a leak, was hospitalized for quite some time (probably 2 months) but still says that surgery was the best thing she's ever done. Complications are real but very rare. It's something to keep in mind but not something that should scare you away.

I agree with the other posters here. Follow your instructions post surgery to avoid leaks. My Dr had 2 leaks in his whole career. You want to know why? Because one patient thought it was ok to eat a bag of doritos home from the hospital, and the other one thought it was ok to eat a t-bone steak. Follow your instructions, and I would wager that you will be perfectly fine.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
