Oh gosh!! ???? how are you trying to quit? I have heard most surgeons won't do the procedure if you haven't quit for at least 6 weeks prior to surgery.

I went for laser today. It really helped. But the days are close. They said 2 weeks...which makes that 2 weeks tomorrow. So stressed about surgery. ..going to Mexico and all the emotions of that. Not a great time to quit after 30 years. Very down. Very worried. So much to wrap my head around.

Can you use the patch or something to help? Cold turkey is a little brutal.

It may be different in Mexico, well it's different state to state. But my clinic says 8 weeks. I know someone that was not able to proceed because she couldn't quit. If you have the timeline from your dr, focus there. Keep your progress as your way of getting through. I am not a smoker so that I can't relate. But they do say with any addiction, including food, it has to be replaced. Hope this resolves for you!

What is laser?

Have you tried the patch or Chantix?

I quit smoking a year ago after 43 years. Using a vape with 0 nicotine worked for me. I used it for a couple of months and now seldom think about it. I got my sleeve in Mexico and I will tell you there was a woman who had a band to RNY revision and she and her husband were both smokers. You might get the lecture in Mexico but it probably won't affect whether they do your surgery. If you can get off the cigs before your surgery you will heal better. Good luck!

I have quit cold turkey about 5 years ago. Well actually over the past 25 years I have quit cold turkey 3 times total. It is not impossible. And it won;t kill you. Just go..I won;t have a smoke for this 5 mins or this new 10 or this 30... and keep stretching that time, pop a hard candy when you should have had a smoke, dance to a song when you should have had a smoke, fold some laundry, ect ect ect eventually you will forget to smoke. Good Luck!

Like @@Shustar, I quit using the vape a couple months before surgery. Just kept cutting back on the nicotine until I was down to 0. Then I eventually lost interest in the vape. But it really helps with the oral fixation fix you really need when you quit smoking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
