How soon after gastric sleeve were you allowed to start taking medications without crushing?

good morning.

I was told smaller than a regular M&M was ok. anything bigger has to be crushed. I break them in half. I was also told no gummies. I believe I can have them in a couple of months. I am about three months post.

I was told to resume meds the next day. I had no problem swallowing and didn't have to crush them. They did make me really full tho lol

I wasn't full off my meds and didn't have issues swallowing. I was told the reason for the smaller size was the entrance into the stomach.

Thank you so much. I'm on a very small pain pill that I'm not taking but am using crushed short acting. But pain clinics aren't very happy about ordering meds early. (I have very severe back pain.) so I hope my doc sill let me restart it tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

My surgery was 7/20, and I quit crushing my meds a few days ago. I started with a smaller one and gave it a few minutes to see if it would go through. After that, I worked my way up to the bigger pills and all was fine.

I have never had to crush or change any of my meds either. Even though we are swollen after surgery, Sleevers still have a normal opening in the stomach and a pyloric valve (unlike folks with bypass and lap band).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
