Port Placement...2 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is my first posting, I just had my surgery yesterday 7/2. Yesterday I had a lot of gas pain/pressure in my chest. After a lot of walking around the house the chest pain has seemed to moved to my neck and shoulders but does not feel as bad as yesterday. Well, now that I am not in as much pain from the gas I am noticing the port pain. It seems that the port was placed on my left side of my stomach right at my curve/crease where I bend. That seems to be a pretty bad place to have put the port since I will always aggravate it whenever I bend down and that is where most of my pants go up to. Has anyone else had this port placement problem? Thanks.

Sandra,

Congrats on your surgery! I had my surgery on 6/25 and have my port in the same spot. It was really sore for the first four or five days and has gotten much better. I had lots of trouble twisting/bending to use the ladies room and also to get into bed. Mine is just sore now, but not much pain. Hopefully yours will do the same.

My port is in the same place. I was sore at first but I kept on moving around, walking, being active. The pain will subside and you will be glad that you are banded. The pain is just a small part you will soon be able to bend and do everything that you would normally do. I am 12 days post op and I feel fine. I know the port is there but it is not bothering me at all and I can actually bend down to tie my own shoes. Best of luck and congrats on being banded. Welcome to band land....

will we be able to ride rides at Six Flags w/band? (i know this probably sounds stupid, but NOT being able to get on rides w/my kids is 1 of the reasons I'm even considering surgery as an avenue for perm weight loss)

thanks.

Texgal that is a very good question! I am not banded yet but hope to be in August. We went down the shore with my two children last weekend. (We live in South Jersey) and I went on a ride with my daughter that got me thinking the same thing. I was called the tidal wave and went around and up and down. I could feel my stomach go up and down. I wonder how that would effect the band? Would it cause a slip? Texgal and I want to know!?!?

Thanks for all of the encouragement. It is good to know that others have the port in the same spot and doing just fine.

I think that the roller coaster rides should be okay once completely healed. Maybe you can just sit a bit taller or slouch lower just enough so that the bar is directly on the port site.

Sandra,

Mine is in the same place too. Initially it hurt a lot, but every day it's better. I am now 10 days postop and I can definitely move around much easier. If I overdo, it reminds me that it's there and it's still healing. Good luck to you.

Peggy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
