Suddenly insecure

Recommended Posts

My own surgery is tomorrow at 6am. I've been up and down so much through this ordeal, but today I'm kind of numb. No fear, no euphoria, no anything. Just want it over with. I will be happy when I'm not thinking about ME all the time and can finally involve myself in other things. I've been totally self absorbed through these two weeks of liquid dieting and know after tomorrow I'll have two more weeks of liquids. Hopefully when puréed foods begin I can start falling off the ME bandwagon again and start living a (semi) normal life again!

Had my surgery on 9/3. All went well. Can't seem to get all my liquids in now and in a terrible depression. Anyone else go thru this right after surgery?

The first week is tough, but it gets better. I was nauseous and could not drink anything. Try sugar free Popsicles and ice chips. Once I did that I started feeling much better. I wasn't depressed I don't think, but I definitely had "WTF did I do to myself!" moments. You will be okay!!

I did not read whole thread but I am 4 years since my revision from band to sleeve and I do not agree that sleeve loses it's effectiveness. It does get harder....for many reasons. I still don't eat the big portions like I used to...

I don't think your stomach stretches back out, but you have to learn to eat healthy. Smaller portions, which the sleeve helps with, more Protein intake, and lower carb intake. No grazing. You can have a few of your favorites. BUT small portion and very rarely. That's my two cents.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
