Does anyone stock up on smaller clothing?

Recommended Posts

I've still got some good quality jeans, sweaters, etc., from when I successfully lost 90 pounds with the lap-band, but I have to admit that I intentionally bought some smaller shirts yesterday, even though I can't fit into them yet (my revision to RNY is on August 24th). My justification is that I live in Miami, and it's always short-sleeve weather, but the stores don't realize that. They're going to start bringing in longer-sleeve shirts soon, so I needed to go ahead and get some shirts that I'll be able to wear later without dying of heat stroke. So, since they were on sale, I went ahead and picked up a few. Not many, since I still have some old stuff to pick through, but a few in each of the next couple of sizes down.

Yes! I have done that already - especially with pants which are hard to fit because of my size and height, so once I found a pair of jeans I liked (not expensive), I got them in 3 sizes. But then I completely went through one size during my 2 week recovery while I was wearing only yoga pants and pjs!

@@losing_the_band,

No do it all the time. For me, they are incentives to keep on going. You should have no problem.

Except, that as you continue to lose that weight you will be freezing and might want those longer shirts. LOL! I used to be sweating all the time, now I am wrapped in blankets with a heating pad and it can be 90 degrees outside.

And I am not the only one. We talk about that all the time on this site.

I'm one month before surgery and I want to buy some smaller stuff when i see things I'd like, but am still too afraid to. Afraid that somehow, I'll be the only one who doesn't actually lose weight after GB, or afraid something will derail me and I won't be able to have surgery. (I had some arm pain the other day and spent a few hours panicking I might be having a heart attack and that would delay my surgery!)

I have hated this summer, not wanting to buy clothes b/c of upcoming surgery, but really not being comfortable in what I had (gained a few more pounds last year) so I did go ahead and buy a few new inexpensive shirts for work, figuring I will pass them on to someone else afterward.

I have a neightbor who is always looking so fashionable and quite smaller than me. She goes through her closets often and gives bags to my daughter..now I am starting to go through them to save for me!!! This a huge incentive b/c she really has great taste!! I am going to start looking at summer clearance for a few tops and skirts/dresses for next summer soon!!

I did. I have tons to work my way back down through but no jeans. I saw a post in a yard sale group this weekend from a lady selling several pairs of jeans a couple sizes down from where I am. I jumped on it and when I met her l, she had 3 bags of jeans. She said she found extra ones that she threw in. I took them home and washed them and they were a range from size 16 to 24. I'm a 26 now so it was perfect. Now my problem is how to store them!

I did! I couldn't resist a super cute dress that was on clearance for $12. It's 2 or 3 sizes too small right now. My surgery should be in November, so I'm trying not to shop.

I just bought a black pencil skirt that is 3 sizes too small! I've always wanted to be able to wear a pencil skirt. I'm almost 3 months out so it should be able to fit me relatively soon!

I saved some smaller sizes from a previous weight loss. I plan on as usual for me to hit the thrift stores and consignment stores til I am at my goal weight. The best part is you donate the larger clothes and most thrift stores give you a credit to use in the store when you donate. I am on the smaller end of obesity with 105 lbs now to lose but I think it would be great if there was a source for Bariatric surgery patients to exchange or share clothes with others to help out on the cost of a new wardrobe. I am also a seamstress so I can take in clothes and even re-cut to make a smaller by a couple sizes. You can find a seamstress to help also. Good luck!

I think it is ok to buy smaller clothes but do not go over board because I tell you I had to give away so many nice clothes and buy more because you go through sizes quickly. now shop at concession stores until i reach my goal weight and just maintain. I bought a size 12 pants in January of this year and now i can wear them which is a big improvement from a size 32 pants. LOL. my idea size will be between a size 8 or 10 pants depending on how i look because I do not want to be a bobble head.

I only shop at Salvation Army. I try to only buy clothing that is 50% off. Every day or week the color changes. Yesterday all purple tags were 50% off. I have been buying 1-2 sizes smaller that what I am currently wearing. I try them on and look for pants that need about 2-4 inches to zip. I only buy name brands. (Vera Wang, Eddie Bauer, Talbot's, Jones, etc.) I also bought bathing suits in 4 sizes. I want to swim at the gym and know it will be hard to find swimsuits in the winter months. I look for high quality. I bought 2 long sleeve shirts, 2 short sleeve shirts 5 pairs of jeans, 4 bathing suits for $32. If I lose weight and they don't fit, who cares.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
