judyd 6 Posted August 8, 2015 I am self pay and having the VSG on Aug 12. My surgeon is doing the procedure outpatient at his surgery center and I will spend the night in a nearby hotel, since I live 90 minutes away. This helps me due to lower costs. Has anyone had it outpatient and what was your experience? I had the Lap Band in 2006 and it was removed in 2012 all by this same surgeon.
ShrinkingPeach 1,291 Posted August 8, 2015 I was sleeved on 5/15/15 as an outpatient...surgery at 7:30 am and home at 1:26 pm same day. I did great. I live 30 minutes from the hospital where I had the surgery. My surgeon does a ton of patients as out-patients and some he keeps overnight.
BrownEyedTxGirl 139 Posted August 8, 2015 I had my surgery this past Monday. Surgery at 6:30 am and released by 2:00 pm. My surgeon does all of his surgeries at his outpatient facility. I had a wonderful experience and was much happier to be recovering in my own home/bed than a hospital. I lived about 45 miles from the facility and had no issues in the car on the way home. Took a dose of pain medicine before leaving and had a pillow against my stomach. Good luck with your journey!
