WL WARRIOR 692 Posted August 7, 2015 My bariatrician said the same thing during my initial consultation in mid January 2014. It took me until the end of September 2014 to jump through all the hoops to get approved. My bariatrician (whom I hadn't seen since the initial consultation in January) was ecstatic that my weight stayed the same for eight months even though he told me I didn't have to watch my weight while waiting approval for surgery. He said most people gain anywhere between 5-40 pounds while waiting.
Chylyn7 26 Posted August 7, 2015 Damn 5-40 pounds! I've gained 9 while waiting
tam_mandala 33 Posted August 8, 2015 I was told by both the surgeon's office and my insurance, that they look at your weight at the start of my 6-month diet program, and that they actually encourage some weight loss. I was concerned about this because I have a BMI of 40.9 and no comorbidities. I'm right on the edge...
juno5 30 Posted August 10, 2015 I was told to loose wgt if I can. Totally optional. According to my surgeon I'm already accepted into the program and if I loose now it is just a plus for me.. But not required.
Michelle Tarver 62 Posted August 10, 2015 I was told not to loose any weight during preop in order for insurance to qualify me. Yep, I am 5'7" and BMI is RIGGHTTT there at 40.sumthing..no co morbidity So I was told not to go below 262, so I could lose 5 more lbs between now and my anticipated date in Feb. ( For my reasons not the surgeons I have to put it off) . For MY (Atena) I have to be at a qualifying BMI ON surgery day. It's stupid. the INSURANCE requires a 90 day diet and exercise Doctor super vied program.. Bangs head on the table...
sgibbs 16 Posted August 10, 2015 The office manager told me the same. It's related to your bmi. At minimum it has to be 35 with at least 2 co-morbities like HBP and sleep apnea. If it's under that, insurance may deny you as not qualifying. If you bmi is higher than that already ..then likely you'd be encouraged to loose weight but not enough to be under
sgibbs 16 Posted August 10, 2015 Juno5. My dr said they same to me but, the office manager said differently. She is the one who has to make sure the doctor gets paid
sgibbs 16 Posted August 10, 2015 I'm so ready for this. I had lapband 7 yrs ago. Did well until complications tat caused me to have in removed this January. I blew right up. Last year in March I was 119lbs, which I admit was too small for my 5'4" frame. Now I am 209lb... I'm so depressed because my life and health changed drastically..I hardly had time to keep up. Having the sleeve on August 26!!! Yay!!
