sleeved 8/4/15 and feeling great...BUT....

Recommended Posts

Who knew it would be this difficult to drink the 80-90z of liquids ...wowsers!!! I had to stay in the hospital one extra day due to swelling & nausea. But with all the anti nausea meds I was doing great on day three. Day 4...I'm home...set my alarms for 6am to start my drinking.....it's now 5pm and I've only had about 20 ounces....anyone else have this problem...or have any advice...dehydration would mean a trip to the ER and I'm definitely not down for that.....

Just keep a bottle with you and sip constantly. It's important to keep any gall bladder problems from happening. You just have to go slow at first, your stomach is healing, but keep working it. You will be able to drink normally in a week. (OK, hopefully, that was my experience).

It's very early days for you. Just keep sipping all day and you will be surprised what a few days difference will make. Congratulations on the surgery and I hope your recovery is speedy! :D

@@flipper72 I think most people have that problem, I found drinking straight Water was much harder than drinking it with flavor, I finally switched over alternating between water and coconut water (which is a super hydrator)

Even though I'm four months out, I've been battling a fever the past three days and it's been hard drinking enough Water because I'm so lethargic. So I went back to basics - I take a sip (roughly an ounce) every 10 min. I use the aqualert app as a reminder.

I started using a straw and was able to double the amount of Water each day.

They originally told me not to use a straw but I asked the dr and he said it was fine if I could tolerate it. It does not hurt the sleeve.

Drink your Protein. The clear punch-like kind. It goes down easier than Water and you get a double benefit. I used G2, it has some carbs, but quite frankly, I needed the short term energy. You can add Unjury no flavored protein to it as well. 30 calories for a 20 ounce bottle for Gatorade G2).

Congratulations on having the surgery!!! I worried about the fluids myself, but after several days, as the other posts state, I my liquid intake increased substantially. Since my sleeve, I've been on the borderline of constantly thirsty, so that helps me to get my fluids in (I used to drink at least a gallon of Water PLUS a day).

Just remember that when your newly stitched up stomach tells you that it's "full", it's REALLY FULL! (I overdrank Water one evening and it was just backed up in my esophagus... and it could not go down, so....you know....). I learned my lesson to pay attention to what my belly tells me when it comes to drinking my water/fluids, as well as eating my meals.

Good luck, and again, congratulations!!

Thank you all so much!! I'm 1 week out and I feel amazing. I've been off pain and nausea meds for three days now....I'm enjoying Protein Shakes, yogurt and Popsicles with no issues....vitamins are going well...I'm hitting at least 10k steps a day according to my Fitbit....the only real side effect is gas....but from what I read...that's normal...and I'm still sleeping in a recliner...but it's a comfy one...so it's not too bad.

I have to share...PB2...which is powdered peanuts is amazing when added to choc Protein shake....it's like a Reese shake...yum!! My husband even loved it and he's a hardcore sweets guy lol. Hope you're all doing great!! ????????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
