What food do you miss after your weight loss surgery?

Recommended Posts

None anymore. In the beginning carbs were hard. Now if I want a bite of something I do. What's funny to me is what I can't stand now. I can't cook Pasta for

People the smell makes me sick.

The three foods I miss most are homemade bread right out of the oven, homemade cinnamon rolls, and all you can eat pancakes from IHOP. At ten months out, I haven't tried to eat any of those. It may be best if I don't in hopes that I will forget what they taste like.

This reminded me of my beloved Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster. Last year's even was right after my surgery, so I wasn't even tempted or sad. But this year's will be tough for me! I'll see those commercials and know I wouldn't even be able to make it through the first two portions they served me, much less the 8 or so extra portions I used to scarf down! Endless Shrimp used to be one of my favorite times of year!

Dill pickles, green olives and jalepeno peppers - all together in a bowl. Big Papa pickles. Drinking Pickle Juice lol. Salt freak. Weird I know.

I don't eat a large amount but I have dill pickles, olives, and jalapeños all the time.

@@her1981 - I am still loving sushi

Nothing I can't live without. I have a bite or two or pizza, but that's it. Any more and I'll puke. I am learning to love the taste and texture, but not the volume. Kind of sensual when you really start to think of it...I think my girlfriend might appreciate the metaphor if I can phrase it right.

What about chocolate?

I have chocolate all the time. I have chocolate and dark chocolate Calcium supplements. I have chocolate Protein Shakes, Protein Bars, and pudding. I really haven't felt deprived of chocolate at all.

Twinkies and Pepsi. Why is it so hard to get in 80 ounces of Water, when I could easily drink a gallon of Pepsi a day?

I found that most of the "foods" that I miss, were not really foods, but factory made edible products.

Why is it so hard to get in 80 ounces of Water, when I could easily drink a gallon of Pepsi a day?

Because your stomach is now the size of a Sharpie and because you can't eat and drink at the same time. I gave up soda years ago and only drank Water and hot beverages (coffee!) prior to my surgery. I could easily get in a gallon or more every day. Even 11 months post-op, I struggle to get in about 10 cups a day now. I am just not as thirsty as I was pre-op. I don't gulp water the way I used to. And I can't eat and drink at the same time, so I'm no longer using water as a way to wash food down so I can cram in more. I used to go through a good 2-3 glasses of water at restaurants when I ate out. Now I can maybe get through half a glass in before they bring me my food and then I can't drink anymore until after I get home.

I don't miss anything.... I indulge occasionally and in a lot smaller portions.

I don't miss anything because I occasionally indulge and eat what I want- in moderation. I just track my intake and burn off any extra calories at the gym. So far it's working.

Sandwiches!! I want Jimmy Johns Turkey Avocado Beach sub!

But really... breads in all forms, (someone mentioned bagels! Yum!!), Pasta and Pepsi!

Jimmy Johns will make any sub without bread, did you know? I miss their bread too, so good! They do lettuce wrap for any sub.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
